The air was cold and the sky was dark as you exited the Impala, shotgun in hand. You started your way up the pathway towards the mansion where a demon has been lurking, eager to finish this hunt. Castiel got out of the back seat and followed you, Sam and Dean taking up the rear.
"Y/N! Wait!" Cas called as you got to the top of the hill. You turned and look at him. "Be careful." he warned, grabbing your shoulders. You rolled your eyes but smiled. He always did this, worrying about you right before a hunt.
"We'll be fine, Cas," you comforted the worried angel, placing a gentle kiss on his cheek. "Stop worrying so much." Cas smiled slightly and kissed you back. After a couple moments, Dean awkwardly clears his throat.
"You two love birds ready to go? Or do you need a minute?" Dean smirked as you stuck your tongue out at him. You held Castiel's hand as you followed Sam and Dean into the mansion.
The four of you stopped in the entry hall, taken aback by how big this mansion really was.
"Maybe we should split up to scout the place?" Sam suggested and Dean nodded. Naturally, they paired up, so you and Castiel paired up.
"If either of you two find anything, yell and me and Sammy will come find you, okay?" Dean instructed. You and Cas both nod and part ways.
You and Cas are searching what feels like the millionth room before Cas speaks up.
"Did you hear that?" he says, seeming too loud for the creepy quiet of the house. You listen for a moment, unaware of the figure lurking in the shadows. You're about to reply to the angel when the figure leaps out at you, an angel blade tight in their grip.
You scream. There's no time to lift your gun. You hear Cas yell from behind you but your eyes are squeezed shut. A few moments pass before you allow yourself to open your eyes. Why am I not dead? you thought to yourself.
When you open your eyes, you know why. The demon is lying on the floor, eyes burnt out and dead. For a moment you're relieved, but only for that moment. Your eyes continue to scan the floor, and you let out a gasp when you see Cas.
He's propped up on one elbow, his legs sprawled below him. Both hands are clutching his side, his face twisted in pain. You instantly run over, kneeling beside him.
"Cas!" you cry, trying to see what was wrong. Your hand flies to your mouth when you see the damage done. The angel blade, is lying next to him, soaked in blood. His hands are pressing against him side, bright light leaking between his fingers. Castiel looks at you with horror on his face.
"Y/N! You need to get away!" he grunts, holding one hand up to ward you off. But you won't have it, you put one hand on his shoulder and one hand over his on his side.
"You're gonna be okay, Cas. I'll go get Sam and Dean and we'll get you out of here. You're going to be okay." you rambled, tears springing to your eyes. Castiel just tries to push you away again.
"I'm not going to make it, Y/N," Cas whispered forcefully, "You need to get away from me!" Stubborn as ever, you stayed at Castiel's side.
"I'm not leaving you, Cas!" You shout, tears flowing now. Cas had tears in his eyes too.
"I love you, Y/N," he whispered, "Goodbye." You angrily pounded the floor.
"Don't you dare say your goodbyes!" you shouted, tears dripping from your chin into Cas' open wound. Quickly, the angel grappled your face and kissed you passionately. You kissed back, salty tears mingling into the kiss.
After a moment, Cas let his hand drop from your face and roughly pushed you away. You grabbed onto his wrist though, determined to stay by his side, unknowing of the consequences. you entwined your fingers with his and held on.
"Y/N-" Cas shouted, panic edging his voice when you didn't let go. You were about to reply when bright light flowed from Castiel's eyes and mouth, a piercing screech resonating around the room. You shielded your eyes and waited for it to stop, when you got knocked to the ground.
You kept your arm over your eyes until you knew it had stopped. You didn't want to open them, though. You didn't want to see him lying their, eyes peacefully closed. A sob escaped your lips and you opened your eyes.
At first you're just looking at the ceiling. But you know he's there, burnt wings across the room. You roll your head over and see him, trench coat open and sprawled across the floor. The black burns of his wings were imprinted onto the floor and on the wall next to you. Oh no...
You looked down at your chest and say that the scorch marks covered your entire torso. You let out a sob, crawling over to Castiel. You gently shook his shoulder.
"Cas..." you whimpered, "Please, wake up." But nothing happened. You buried your face in his chest and sobbed.
~~~~~~~~~~
It had been a few minutes until the brothers arrived at the scene. They rushed all around you, Dean held you close as you sobbed, tears flowing from your eyes. They decided to take his body with you, so you could bury him.
The car ride was the longest you've ever had, knowing Cas was lying beside you, but would never wake up. Knowing that you didn't have your angel to constantly worry over you anymore. You played with his hair like you'd always do when he was stressing out over something. You touched his face like you would when he needed to lighten up. You cried to whole way home, to the bunker.
When you got there, you didn't want to get out of the car. Eventually, Sam coaxed you out. You immediately ran to your room, wanting to get rid of the clothes charred with Cas' wings.
But when you took them off, you almost screamed. The imprint was seared into your skin. You ran your finger over the grey skin, tears flowing again. Now you understood why Cas tried to push you away. He didn't want this to happen. But you didn't listen, and now you could never forget.
You dropped to your knees, your face in your hands, and cried.
~~~~~~~~~
A few hours later, you had your funeral. All three of you cried. Cried for the angel that was so brave and saved you on multiple occasions. Cried for the angel that was so sweet and loved you all so much. Cried for your fallen angel.
You, Sam and Dean all stayed out there for hours after Castiel was buried. No one said anything. After a while, Sam and Dean left. But you sat there, even when it started raining. You couldn't leave him, not like this.
"I'm so sorry, Cas."
You picked a nearby flower and placed it on the soft dirt of the grave. It was only a simple flower, a white daisy.
"I know how much you like simple things, Cas. I hope you like daisies."
You stood there, your fingers tracing along your sweater where the wings marks are scorched onto your skin.
"I'm sorry, Cas. I'll never forget you."
Salty tears mixed with rainwater as the rain pelted you and you shivered, you teeth chattering.
"I-I love you, Castiel."
