The sound of the motel room door opening alerted you to Cas' arrival. Earlier, you had gotten a phone-call from the ex-Angel that he would be home soon from investigating a possible case.

"Y/n, I'm back." Cas greeted with a sigh. You turned, a smile growing on your lips, but soon that slipped off when you saw the tired state of your boyfriend.

"Oh, Cas, honey, you look exhausted!" (E/c) eyes lighting up in alarm, you rushed over to Cas' duffel and grabbed some comfy clothes.

"Y/n, what are you-" He began, but you cut him off, pushing the man into the motel room's bathroom. "No," You replied firmly, "Go get changed. Now."

It took a few minutes, but after the bathroom door opened, you saw Castiel standing there in an old pair of pyjamas. "Sweetie, you need sleep. You're exhausted." So, moving over, you patted the hexagonal patterned bed-spread of the bed on the spot beside you.

With a sigh, Castiel climbed into bed. He lay a head on your shoulder, and as you ran nimble fingers through his dark hair you began to speak.

"Cas, I'm worried about you. You're running on fumes, please, can you take a break? For me?" Pleading (e/c) eyes stared into blue ones as Castiel looked up. But finally, he relented.

"Alright, Y/n." It was quiet for a minute before you felt a small smile on your shoulder and Cas spoke up again, "Could you sing, Y/n? Perhaps it would help me fall asleep better."

At that, you snorted. "You cheeky... alright. Fine." Looking around the light room, you hummed a bit to think of a song to sing. Opening your mouth, you began.

"When you were standing in the wake of devastation

When you were waiting on the edge of the unknown

And with the cataclysm raining down

Insides crying, "Save me now!"

You were there, impossibly alone."

At first your voice was a bit rough but as it warmed up, the notes poured forth with a beautiful melody. Castiel strained to hear every last bit as he sat with his head on your shoulder.

"Do you feel cold and lost in desperation?

You build up hope but failure's all you've known

Remember all the sadness and frustration

And let it go. Let it go.

And in a burst of light that blinded every angel

As if the sky had blown the heavens into stars

You felt the gravity of tempered grace

Falling into empty space

No one there to catch you in their arms."

You could feel Cas' breath slow down on your shoulder, his muscles slowly relax. But you wanted to finish one last chorus of the song.

"Do you feel cold and lost in desperation?

You build up hope but failure's all you've known

Remember all the sadness and frustration

And let it go. Let it go."

"Good night, Cas." You whispered, placing a gentle kiss to his temple. "Sleep well."
