Drowning

Cold. I felt a jolt of cold. I woke up and did a little gasp. I saw the ground started to get filled with water. Other people were waking up. Everyone started to panic and yelling started to fill the room. The water was rising up fast. Faster than I expected. I was confused as to why most of the people were heading by the toilets, away from the door. I was the only one heading toward the door.

"CJ!" I heard my name get called by Lucas. He made a hurry motion to go by him but I just didn't understand. The water was 3/4 full and starting to lift all of us off the ground. We were all on the top, close to the ceiling. My heart raced as I hoped this wouldn't be the end. I took my last breath of air and went under. I swam over to the door and tried to pull it open, but it wouldn't. I looked back at everyone by the toilets and they had breathing tubes. I looked and there were no more available. Lucas offered his but I looked away. The mirror. I swam to the mirror. I could feel everyones eyes on me, not one was looking away. I observed it for a couple of seconds and started to try and punch it. It was very hard. I looked for something to break it with and I saw a pipe. I picked it up and started to try and break the mirror with it. Each swing required full effort since water slows down everything which also my breathing started to run short. I could feel it. For what felt like forever, I didn't see anybody helping me break this mirror. I couldn't do it alone. I looked back at them, all were confused. Lucas, worried. But one girl, intrigued. She swam over, grabbed another pipe and started helping me break the glass. The glass slowly started to break. In the moment that I felt weaker, I hit harder. I wasn't going to die, not like this. A few more hits and the glass mirror broke, swishing all of us against the wall where Steve stood. Everybody's breathing was escalated. In the water, I felt like someone was slowly squeezing my heart but now, they've released and I feel relieved. I could finally breathe.

"What the hell!?" Jim shouted.

"Good that most of you know that the toilets have a breathing tube in the U bend which should supply you with an unlimited amount of air." Steven said. We were all still laid on the floor, crowded in the corner slowing our heartbeats down.

"You have to be ready for anything. I would say you guys did good. But there's one very important thing you forgot." Steven said strictly. All of us were wondering what it was, we all made it out..barely.

"Teamwork." He directed his eyes back to the room. All heads turn and we lay our eyes on one boy and one girl. They were both not moving. Both their faces were faced away from us. The boy was on the bed, his arm hanging off the bed. Girl, on the floor next to the mirror. Context clues, they're dead. The room went silent and the tension was very much there. Things got serious now.

Steven sighed. "We'll get this cleaned up, then you sleep. For real this time."
We all got up, and started to consult with each other.

"Dang, I didn't sign up for this!" A red headed boy said.

"Scared?" Matt teased.

"What? Me? Scared? No!" The boy denied. Matt, Rob, and Jim all laughed. Not with the boy but at him.

"Why did you guys go and break the mirror?" The red headed boy said.

"They probably just wanted to be the heroes of the day or whatever." This was the same girl that said something about me getting hurt. I ignored her again though.

"Amy. It was a life or death situation." The girl who helped me out said, squinting her eyes.

"Whatever, Kat." Amy scoffed.

"The mirror was a two way, I could tell. They wouldn't just put a big mirror with no purpose. Although the pipes may have given you unlimited water supply, I would have rather done time over safety. But that's just me." I shrugged. The boy looked shocked, surprised and captivated.

"That was pretty cool not gonna lie. Names Dinger."
He said putting his hand out to shake.

"CJ." I shook his hand back but then he twirled me around and then dipped me in his arms. I laughed at what he just did.

"Gross." Kat said.

"Why'd you do that?" I questioned.

"Just to prove I have excellent charisma." Dinger said raising his eyebrows up and down.

"Please. He's been doing that to all the girls here. I don't know what's wrong with him. Genuinely. I mean I think you're the only girl who didn't slap him for doing that." Kat judged.

"Hey! You don't gotta explain every dang detail." Dinger crossed his arms, embarrassed.

Time flew by and the room was already cleaned up. It felt a little off seeing those two bodies. Hopefully water doesn't come up again. Or a fire. I said goodnight to Kat, Dinger, and Lucas and went to sleep.
