Quackity could no longer imagine a life without Sapnap. Ever since Quackity had come to this academy three years ago, the friendship between the two had been unbreakable. Sapnap had been the first to talk to Quackity, volunteering to have Quackity as a roommate and giving him advice in the most difficult times. Especially on days when the sun shone for only an hour, Sapnap had been Quackity's personal heater.

You could say he was his light in the darkness. Quackity hated cold and when it was extremely cold again or dark for a long time, he was allowed to sit back to back on his bed with Sapnap after school. Meanwhile, the two did homework together or studied for tests.

Only by now, this deep affection towards Sapnap was getting worse and Quackity didn't know how to deal with it. He always wanted to be with him, to be able to snuggle against his back even on sunny days. He felt cursed while everything in his body was screaming to be close to Sapnap. It was like a rope was being stretched between them and the farther he was from Quackity, the more it stretched and threatened to break. It hurt so excruciatingly, but Quackity could not cross those boundaries of friendship.

Maybe that was the reason why he had implemented this stupid idea, the idea to play with the forbidden rituals. Not because he wanted to have a better grade or more respect from the others. No. He just wanted to spend more time with his best friend and hear his stupid laugh when Quackity managed to make him laugh with his nonsense.

Now there was no more laughter or any nonsense. Only the deep roar in his head slowly faded as Quackity awoke from a state of unconsciousness. His body shook and convulsed in pain as he struggled to stand on the muddy forest floor.

Disoriented, he searched the area. He was in a forest clearing in the middle of the forest. Not far from the academy, one could still see the huge roof in the distance. Yes, he could remember this. In the middle of the clearing, Sapnap was squatting in front of a person. His clothes were dirty and... Wait, a person? Quackity squinted his eyes to identify the body.

That was a human being. From another dimension, Quackity thought. He had expected something else. With all his strength, Quackity got to his feet and ran to Sapnap's side. The latter, looking furious, gave Quackity only a brief angry look and tried to wake up the human or the creature in front of him.
"What have we done..." whispered Quackity as he realized the extent of what he had done. With shaky legs, he sank to the ground next to the human. The two had really torn a human being from another dimension to theirs.

Of course, the professors had already caught wind of what Quackity and Sapnap had done. Such a shining thunderstorm at the edge of the forest of the academy had not been really subtle. After talking to the principal and visiting the infirmary, they were now on their way to their room.

"I hope they wake up soon," Sapnap muttered, making Quackity's stomach feel queasy again.

The person had a tortured expression on their face the whole time they were in Sapnap's arms. The clothes were tattered and bloody. The professors had immediately confiscated them and taken them to the basement when the three of them arrived at the academy.

Quackity wanted to throw up again because he was tormented by his guilt and afterpains from the ritual. The ritual was supposed to only summon an object from another dimension, but in the end, the two summoned a living being.

"They were hurt so much more than we were..." muttered Quackity, ashamed of his inferior bandage on his arm and left-wing. Instead of an answer, Sapnap lowered his head and mused to himself.

Of course, Quackity thought, turning his sight to the ground. Sapnap had had that look on his face all along, and on the way back he had muttered things like
"I shouldn't have listened to you"
or
"That was a terrible idea".

Quackity had screwed up and now Sapnap was mad at him. Now he had spent more time with him, but at what cost. He had been selfish and the universe had punished him for it. I guess that's fair, he thought to himself and sighed.

Silently, the two walked down the hallways of the second floor to find Wilbur at the door of their room. Wilbur was leaning against the wall, his snow-white wings with small black speckles hung loosely down the sides of his back. When he saw the two, he pushed himself off the wall and crossed his arms in front of his chest with a warm smile.

Quackity and Sapnap stopped.
"Who did you kill or what did you do to get my father to give you five days off?" he asked, his expression unchanged.

"How do you know that we got suspended from classes?" asked Quackity. Wilbur raised an eyebrow and then pointed to a crow sitting at the end of the aisle, tilting its head as the three boys looked at it simultaneously.

"Well, That was obvious, but then surely the crow can answer your question too," Sapnap said.

"That's true, of course, but hearing it from your mouths makes things more pleasant," Wilbur replied, taking a step back to clear a path to the door for Sapnap.

Sapnap was the first to enter the room, followed by Quackity who immediately sat down on his bed to relax his aching muscles.

Wilbur stood in the doorway.
"Just kidding. My dad just told me to bring you food, homework, and to let you know if there's any news about your new friend," Wilbur explained, turning away from them.

"Thanks. I'll see you then," Quackity said and waved after Wilbur. The latter also raised his hand without turning around and then left the room. When the door closed with a caw, Sapnap and Quackity sighed with relief at the same time.

Quackity wanted to say something, ask Sapnap if he was okay or if he was still mad at Quackity, but instead, he flopped down on his bed, which Sapnap did too on the opposite side of the room.

Sapnap turned off the light in the room with his power and it became quiet. Quackity, who was nervously rolling around in his bed, could not find peace so quickly. The voices and footsteps in the hallway, in the building, and the roaring wind outside made him even more nervous than he already was.

"Quackity?", Sapnap's voice snapped him out of his mental dilemma after a while.
"I'm sorry. I'll be quiet now," he replied.
"That's not what I mean. I'm sorry if I was too harsh on you today. I was just mad at myself, you, and everything...you know?"
"I know...I'm sorry too. I didn't know this could happen," Quackity turned to the side where Sapnap's bed was. Quackity could make out the contours of Sapnap's face in the darkness through the dim light outside.
"It's okay. We started it together and we'll fix this mess together too.", through the darkness Quackity could see Sapnap's gentle smile. His heart skipped a beat and his stomach calmed instantly. Sapnap did not hate him.

"Yes. Goodnight Sapnap."

"Goodnight, Quackity"
