The world around Jungkook becomes a blur, while every drop of noise drowns itself out.
His heart was in his throat while his ability to function had plummeted below earth, and buried itself there.
His breathing was practically non-existent, body numb, yet the blood on his skin felt as if it was suffocating him.
He felt as if no amount of water would be able to wash it clean from his hands, not even the whole of Neptune's ocean.
How could he have been so god damn stupid?
"Jungkook . . ." Not even the calling from his best friend could bring him back to life, because no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't forget the way he felt when staring down at Ara's lifeless body while blood pooled around it.
How had he missed the signs practically delivered to him on a plate?
'She's not in the best of conditions.'
'You know, blood bags and all.'
Areum's words were engraved into Jungkook's brain, like a spell trapping him into the deepest and darkest parts of his mind.
Her voice was dripping with venom, so fucking sweet, that he'd failed to suspect her on the case.
Yes.
Only when he'd actually entered Ara's room did he know exactly what she meant.
By not in the best of conditions, she meant dead and by blood bags, she meant blood bath.
"Jungkook . . ." He suddenly blinks on feeling Taehyung shake him, mentally coming back to the interrogation room he'd ended up in.
It was no surprise, yet he was still in shock, as anyone in their right mind would be.
"Hey, everything's going to be okay. I promise." Taehyung's eyes fill with concern as he grips Jungkook's shoulder.
"Do you though?" Jungkook stares at him, eyes null and void of even a speck of emotion.
At this, Taehyung swallows hard.
The answer was no.
There were no ifs or buts about it, yet when he looked at Jungkook in that moment, it was impossible to say 'no.'
He looked as if he'd been shattered to pieces, and Taehyung was prepared to pick each and every one of them up in order to save him, no matter the cost.
"Of course. I'll make sure of it." Taehyung sends Jungkook a faint smile, hoping to bring some source of warmth back into his body, but it was no use.
He was as about as warm as an ice cube and Taehyung was getting more worried by the second, not that he could let this show, for his best friend's sake.
Merely catching onto the vibrations of Taehyung's concern, Jungkook looks up at him, however his mind can't help but cast back to the girl at the asylum.
It was her.
She was the assassin that had him breaking his back over the mess she'd caused, there was no doubt about it, but that's not what he couldn't stop thinking about.
She was majestic in the way she moved, skilful with each word dripping from the tip of her tongue.
A serpentine, a viper that you know is dangerous and wouldn't hesitate to bite you, yet still find unforgivably intriguing.
She was smart, clearly.
And for that, through his eyes, deserved to kill whoever the fuck she wanted.
