Sarah gives Trevor a polite smile not knowing whether or not he recognizes her. It's a possibility since Trevor had known that she and Arabelle were the ones who had kept the copies and evidence that Arabelle had obtained from Frank.
She doesn't say much, just listens in closely on their conversation and takes notes just like Gilmore instructs.
“So how's it lookin'?” Trevor questions Gilmore who smiles back at him in victory.
“Well in the beginning you were pretty much screwed. The evidence against you is too incriminating for the presumption of innocence. At this point the jury will pretty much presume your guilt,” Gilmore says and Trevor raises a brow.
“I'm waitin' for some kind of good news here Dick,” Trevor says leaning forward on the desk, throwing a side glance at Sarah. He shifts his cold stare back to an unbothered and relaxed Gilmore.
“The good news is that the prosecutor on your case Bill Billiards, is a corrupt scumbag. Throw a bag of coins his way and the rest is history. The worst possible outcome is that he'll rule for the state to permanently freeze all of your assets,” Gilmore says simply. Sarah's ears perk up at Gilmore's statement. That means Gilmore cheated his way to victory.
Trevor laughs at Gilmore's statement. “Well... Money makes the world turn huh,” he says in wonder and Gilmore chuckles. Sarah looks down at her notebook, not feeling the same enthusiasm that they are feeling.
“That's just one of the many options. If it gets screwed up, we'll go for plan B. Assuming it's not too late for plan B,” Gilmore says arrogantly and Trevor's jaw drops in surprise.
“There's actually many options? I gotta say... I underestimated your abilities Dick. I might pay you and your...” he looks at Sarah.
“...little assistant here.. a little extra, if you might,” he says looking back at Gilmore. “So tell me then Dick. What is option number two, in case the corrupt prosecutor suddenly decides to turn around his life of sin?” Trevor asks with a laugh. Gilmore nods his head at Trevor.
“We can pin all of your crimes on Smith. We can fabricate evidence and make it seem like the real owner of your businesses has been Smith,” Gilmore says and Sarah's eyes widen. She quickly masks it with indifference and thanks the Lord for all the evidence she was getting now. Smith leans over the table and holds Gilmore's gaze.
“But why not use both of them?” Trevor questions and Gilmore's eyebrows furrow in confusion.
“Look Dick. I ain't lookin' to reduce my sentence. I' been rotting here for months. I have done enough time. Pinning all this on Smith will make all my problems go away. It's a damn magic wand. You need to do everything to get me out of here, unscathed,” Trevor says almost in rage.
Gilmore takes a moment to think it over.
“Alright but we'll need a bit more time to get it that way. That means you have to stay here a little longer,” Gilmore says.
“What can a few more weeks do? I've already been here for months. It won't hurt. Just git it done,” Trevor says and Gilmore nods.
“Well alright we'll get it done,” Gilmore says and nods at the officer who escorts Trevor out the door.
Gilmore looks at Sarah and raises one of his brows. “He's an interesting one, isn't he? Don't worry you'll get used to him,” he says casually with a smug smile not knowing that Sarah is actually already familiar with his ways.
They walk back to Gilmore's car and just then Sarah secretly stops the voice recorder on her phone, entering the car casually like nothing unsettles her about the conversation they've just had with Trevor a few minutes ago.
