Chapter 19

Jellal came down the stairs and walked over to Mirajane. "Where's Erza?" she asked.

"Reiki needed some time alone with her. It seems he's going through something right now," Jellal responded.

Nova's ears perked up at this comment. 'That idiot better not have said a word,' she thought. 'We can't make it awkward for our parents.'

"I thought something was wrong with how things went down earlier," Mirajane said. "Any idea why he's upset?"

"He hasn't said a word, just asked to stay with us for the night," Jellal replied. "It's a bit unnatural for him to keep to himself. Normally let's people know right away if something bothers him." Nova let out a sigh of relief and went to go talk to Sylvia. "I wonder how bad it is for him to keep quiet."

"That would make a lot of sense. Why are you guys here anyway?" Mirajane questioned.

"That's something we were hoping to talk to you about after Lisanna and Bickslow leave with the others," he said.

"I think Lisanna and Bickslow should know though, after all... they're the ones taking on that rowdy bunch," said Mirajane.

"Of course. We can talk about it another day when it's not so chaotic," Jellal suggested.

"Yeah, that's fine. Maybe the day after tomorrow?"

"Sounds good, I'll let Erza know," Jellal said

"I'll tell Lisanna a Bickslow."

It was now getting late and everyone was leaving. Everyone had grabbed their stuff from the guest room and Luke finally came in to grab his. He had delayed doing so for well over an hour.

Opening the door, he came in and starting picking up his luggage. Reiki turned to face him, and accidentally made eye contact with Luke. "Hey."

Reiki stayed quiet. Luke was okay with it though and just sat on the bed, facing the opposite way of him.

"I'm sorry about earlier, if it seemed like I was prying," Luke apologized.

'Why is he apologizing?' Reiki asked himself. Luke didn't do anything wrong. He probably felt guilty because of what Reiki had said earlier though.

"I would just like to be friends. I understand if you don't want to," said Luke. "We're coming back in two days. Maybe we can talk then?" He was hoping for an answer that he would never get.

Reiki felt guilty for what he said in the heat of the moment. He was so irritated because he broke his promise. Then there was Luke being all understanding.

"When your ready to talk about it, let me know. I'll be here in a heartbeat," Luke said. He got off of the bed and exited the room leaving Reiki to himself.

Luke felt bad, but knew he couldn't change what happened. If Reiki wanted to talk about it, then he would do so on his own terms.

When he finally got to the bottom of the stairs he made eye contact with Nova. Luke gave her a death glare, signaling as a warning. He despised people like her.

It was now the next day and the Dreyar household was peaceful now that everyone had left. Nova had come downstairs as bright as ever. "Good morning," she said cheerfully as she entered the kitchen.

"Morning sweetheart," said Laxus.

"Anything interesting going on today, or are we hanging around the house?" Nova asked.

"Might just hang around the house for the day," he replied.

"Alright," said Nova. "Where is everyone?"

"Erza and Mirajane are catching up in the living room with Rosemary with them, and Jellal and Reiki are still asleep as far as I know."

"Oh okay."

"You should check on Reiki," Laxus commented.

"Hm? Why?" Nova asked.

"He hasn't been doing so well from what I hear. I thought since you two are dating that maybe he'd open up to you about it," said Laxus.

"Oh... okay. I'll do that."

"Nova!" called a child's voice from another room. Rosemary runs into the kitchen at full speed.

"Careful," Nova said.

"We should go out today," she says.

"And do what?"

"Get our nails done. Mom never lets me because she doesn't like getting her nails done," said Rosemary.

"Alright, I'll take you," Nova said.

"Okay! I'm going to ask Reiki if he'd like to come," Rosemary said rushing up the stairs.

"No wait-! And she's gone..." said Nova.

Rosemary rushed into the guest bedroom. Her father wasn't in the bed, probably in the bathroom or something. She ran over to her brother and shook him awake. "Reiki Reiki!"

His eyes fluttered open as he saw his sister. "Hey, what's up?" asked Reiki.

"Want to come get your nails done with me?"

"What?" he asked confused.

"Get your nails done. Pleaseeee," she begged.

"Rose, why don't you ask Nova?" Reiki questioned.

"I did! She said she'll take me, but I want you to come too!"

"Oh... I don't think it'll be best for me to come," Reiki said as he sat up.

"Why not?" Rosemary said, sadly.

Reiki looked away from his sister.

"Did you guys break up or something?" she posed, curiously.

"What!? How'd you know?" Reiki looked at her with a worried look.

"Wait, really? I just guessed," she said.

"Ah great..." Reiki said with a facepalm. "You can't tell anyone."

"Why not?"

He opened his mouth to say something, but nothing came out. Reiki knew he had to give her a reasonable explanation, but he didn't have one. This was only a secret because Nova asked him that. "Just until I figure out a way to tell mom and dad," said Reiki.

"Okay," Rosemary said obediently. He was weary about telling her because she can often tell their parents things that should be kept a secret. This time she understood that Reiki had to do this all on his own.

"Thank you."

"What if we just went you and me instead?"

"You don't have to do that!" Reiki said waving his hands.

"I want to. You're my big brother and I should take care of you," Rosemary said with her hands on her hips.

Reiki laughed, "Alright, let's go."
