Chapter 6: Is It A Lie Or A Secret?

Kang Y/N's POV

It's our basketball match today and I feel a bit uneasy. I don't know why but I feel like something bad might happen today.

It's a little weird, I know.

I've never been so nervous about our basketball match before.

I'm currently on my way to the basketball court, wearing our team's jersey, and carrying my backpack with my clothes.

I heard my phone rang so I quickly answered it.

"Y/N, goodluck for today! By the way, if I have time, I will watch the game," my stepmom said on the other line.

"Sure. Thanks for the support!" I said with full of excitement before she hang up the call.

When I reached the court, I saw my teammates and our coach feeling a bit tensed and nervous.

"THANK GOD YOUR HERE!" Our coach exclaimed. "Y/N get ready. You'll be a part of the first five to play for our team," he added.

What?

No way!

I was literally shocked and his words are still not processing inside my head.

"But what happened?" I asked Nayun.

"One of our first five players is sick and can't make it for today's match," she answered.

So this is the reason why I felt a bit uneasy earlier.

Our team did a little warm-up before the game started. After that, the first five players are called to the court.

The game started smoothly on the first quarter with the score 23-18, in favor of our team.

"Do you want water or gatorade?" Jungwon asked me.

"Just water please," I answered and he immediately gave me a bottled water.

While I was drinking, he suddenly put a towel on my head.

"Wipe your face, you're a bit sweaty," he said as he looked away.

"Don't you like it though? The wet look haha," I giggled and saw him blush.

"Eww you two should get a room," Nayun told us.

The coach told me to rest for a bit so that I could still play for the third and fourth quarter.

I sat comfortably on the bench to cheer our playing teammates.

I immediately stood up and waved to Sunoo and Lea when I saw them at the bleachers.

Their classes must have ended which is why they're here to support me and our team.

The second quarter just ended but the score is 47-48 in favor of the opposing team.

I played again for the third quarter and as I stood up to get ready, I can already hear Sunoo and Lea's cheers from the bleachers.

I smiled.

It feels as if I got energized from their cheers.

"Y/N, fighting!" Jungwon also cheered.

When the third quarter ended, the score is already 66-54. Our coach is already happy that we have a 12 point lead.

"Y/N and Nayun is the best basketball players duo that I just realized. I'm actually mad at myself for only discovering your true potential as a player Y/N," our coach said that made me smile.

We began planning for the fourth quarter play so I listened well. I can't let our team lose and disappoint our coach.

We only have three minutes before the match ends. I looked at the scoring board and saw the score is already 74-70, still in favor of our team.

I looked at Nayun and she is already in position to steal the ball from the opposing team so I ran to the designated spot where I can run easily  to score if Nayun will succeed.

When she got the ball, she didn't think twice to pass it to me so I quickly ran to the other side of the court to shoot for a score.

I heard the crowd cheered when I scored.

The score is now 76-70.

The ball is now on the opposing team. I looked at Nayun again and she signalled me to go steal the ball but I failed.

She then signalled one of our teammates to try to steal.

When she succeeded, she quickly passed the ball to me.

"10....9.....8," the crowd started the countdown.

"7.....6......5.....4,"

I don't have much time so I threw the ball to shoot from the three-point-line and waited if I will get a score.

"3....2.....," and before the crowd said 1, the ball shoots the basket and made everyone scream.

My teammates including those who are at the bench ran to my direction to hug me.

"Y/N! That was amazing!" our coach said with his eyes getting teary.

When they finally let go from hugging me, I immediately ran to Jungwon to hug him.

"Congrats Y/N," he said and hugged me back.

"Y/N! OMYGOSH BESTFRIEND! YOU TRULY ARE AN AMAZING BASKETBALL PLAYER AND I LOVE YOUUUUU!" Lea shouted while running towards our direction.

"Y/N that was the best three-point-shoot I have ever seen in my entire life!" Sunoo said.

"Johnny?"

We turned to the one-who-said-that's direction and saw my stepmom Marie.

"Oh hey Auntie Mar--" Lea didn't have the chance to complete her greetings when my stepmom hugged Jungwon.

Wait, Johnny?

My stepmom's son?

Is Jungwon?

I took a step back and didn't even realize that tears started to stream down my face.

"What's the meaning of this?" I asked to get their attention.

"Jungwon?" I looked at him and he's also shocked from whatever is happening right now.

So it was him all along. He's my stepmom's son.

I ran away from them as fast as I can while still wiping off my tears.

No.

So it's Yewon then.

The fruit of my mother's unfaithfulness.

"Y/N!" I heard Jungwon shouted my name but I still ran so fast and didn't look back.

I ran and ran.

I don't even know how the hell do I still have the energy to run after a basketball match but I don't care. I just want to get away from them.

Why though?

Does Jungwon know?

Why did he kept it as a secret?

Is Jungwon really his name? Or he lied?

So that's why Yewon's mom looked familiar when I saw them at the mall's parking lot.

She's my mom who abandoned us and ruined my stepmom Marie's life.

I hate this.

I hate them.
