Chapter

------------------------------------------------------------------

I woke up in the evening to the relentless beeping of my alarm, My dreams having been filled with a mystery forest that seemingly stretched on endlessly.

As I sat up in my bed, The memory of the oddly never ending forest was already fading from my mind.

Stretching out, I groaned at the tightness in a few of my muscles from somehow sleeping wrong.

You'd think that'd be the one thing every should be good at since we practice it so much. . .But noo. . .

Blearily, I made my way over the the crooked and slightly slanted dresser I had in the corner of my room.

It was a very old and wobbly thing, But it did it's job. . .Mostly well.

Grabbing a simple dark blue hoodie and a pair of jeans that were the lest ripped out of all of them, I headed for the single, Slightly broken shower we had.

--- Time skip ---

After a cold shower that had barely gotten up to a lukewarm temperature, I made my way downstairs.

The smell of something burning clueing me into the fact that dad was home.

A tired smile formed on my face as I stepped into the kitchen, Watching from a distance as he tried to put out a bagel that was somehow on fire.

''Oh fuck'' I heard my dad muttering over and over again as he grabbed the burning bagel, Tossing it into the sink before hosing it down with the faucet.

''Toaster acting up again?'' I guessed as I moved to stand next to him.

My dad tiredly dragged his hand down his face, His dark brown eyes locked on the offending machine.

''Yeah. . .Looks to be. . .I'll have to try and fix it later'' He muttered before glancing down at me.

''Guess it's ramen noodles again for tonight'' He muttered as I went to grab one of the containers of dehydrated soup from the cabinet.

''I like ramen noodles. . .It's not that bad of a situation'' I pointed out, Trying to see the good here.

That earned me a tired half smile from my dad as he set the kettle to start boiling.

I sat down across from my dad at the table as we waited for the water to heat up.

''Dad. . .I need advice. . .Adult advice'' I muttered, Tracing the old stains and burn marks on our second hand table as I spoke.

I could just barely see my dad's eyes narrow slightly at that.

''. . .What happened. Is someone black mailing you? Bullying you?'' My dad questioned, His raspy voice taking on a protective edge to it.

Shaking my head, I smiled sadly.

''No, It's something much worse. . .I unfortunately found my soulmate today'' I informed him quietly, Finally looking up at him as I spoke.

I watched as he froze, His mind clearly trying to figure out how to respond to that.

''. . .I'm. . .Sorry to hear that. . .Will it at least be easy to leave this soulmate?'' He asked, The tone of his voice speaking volumes for how he felt about me planning on leaving my soulmates.

I knew he didn't exactly approve of my plan to just not give any of my soulmates a chance, But, I knew he also was well aware of my reasoning and wasn't about to stop me.

''. . .We'll have to see, He's an upbeat people pleaser and despite knowing each other for under ten minuets, He's already declared me his boyfriend'' I muttered, Doing my best to sum up our meeting as quickly and swiftly as I could.

''I have a feeling he won't take me refusing to be with him too well. . .'' I added on as an after thought.

Dad sighed before the whistle of the kettle stopped whatever he was about to say.

I waited in silence as he went to fetch the boiling water filled kettle, Pouring it into the instant ramen noodle cups that were sitting in front of both of us.

I glanced over at our only working clock while he put the kettle back, I didn't have much longer before I'd have to leave for work.

''Don't out right refuse to date him then'' Dad said simply, Sitting back down across from me.

I arched an eyebrow but didn't say anything, Knowing he wasn't done talking yet.

''. . .Be his friend and work with him to find one of the other soulmates, With two people working together, It should take less time'' He continued as I started to try and eat my noodles, Wincing in pain as I nearly burned my mouth.

''He hopefully won't be as hurt if he has another soulmate to comfort him once you tell him he has no chance'' Dad finished, Taking a bite of his noodles as well.

Staring down into my cup, I continued to slowly eat my supper, Thinking over my dad's advice for a long moment as I ate.

''. . .You really think that'd work?'' I asked after a while, Glancing away from my food to stare at my dad.

He paused mid bite before nodding his head, A few noodles falling from his fork and onto the small scraggly bead that was the result of him being too tired to shave the past three days.

Grinning slightly, I gestured towards his face.

''You kinda have a bit of noodle on your face'' I informed him, Holding back my amusement as he completely missed them.

''Did I get them?'' He asked, To which I just shook my head.

Before this could continue further, I ended up spotting the time from the corner of my eye.

''Oh fuck.'' I whispered, Nearly jumping out of my seat.

''Ashton? What's the matter?'' Dad asked, Concern in his eyes as he got up as well.

''I didn't pay attention to the time! I gotta hurry or I'll be late!'' I shouted back to him as I tried to put my shoes on while still standing, Resulting in me hopping on one foot.

With my shitty balance, This was the same as doing the tango with death.

Will I crack my head open in my hurry or will I live another day? Who the fuck even knows.

------------------------------------------------------------

:T Well Ashton's got a plan now. . .

Anyways! Like always, Have a good day/night and find a better book! - fallen
