Taking a small sip of water, I quickly swallowed the meds I had forgotten to take earlier.
''I'm glad the issue was something that could be easily fixed'' Chase commented from where he was leaning on our rather small kitchen counter.
Humming in agreement, I finished my drink before turning my attention back to him.
''Yeah. . .Apologies that I freaked you out. . .Still getting used to taking meds'' I apologized, Genuinely feeling a bit bad that I had clearly worried him.
I doubt I will admit this out loud but. . .I most likely wouldn't have made it home had he not insisted on driving me.
''No need to apologize, I'm just glad you're going to be okay'' Chase dismissed, Giving me a kind, Lop sided smile.
He'll be good for Felix. . .They're both pretty nice. . .
''Would you like something to eat? To drink?'' I offered, Feeling inclined to offer due to politeness sake as well as the want to return some of the kindness he's shown.
''No, Thank you for the offer but I have to get back to work'' He explained, An apologetic tone to his voice.
''Well. . .I could make you a sandwich to go'' I murmured, Crossing my arms as I spoke.
I kind of wanted to return his kindness. . .In the form of food.
He gave me a fond, Lopsided smile before putting his police hat back on.
''As much as I would love that, I am already close to being late'' He informed me, Pausing before reaching out and gently patting me on my shoulder.
He looked like he wanted to do something fonder than that, But instead, He opted for something less so.
''Get feeling better okay? Rest and try not to overexert yourself'' Chase advised before tipping his hat in a farewell and heading out the door.
And just like that, He was gone, Leaving me alone in my fairly cold home.
It's a lot louder without him here. . .
I could hear the sounds of car horns blaring, Neighbors fighting, Dogs barking and kids throwing tantrums through the thin walls of my home.
Sighing, I shook my head and made my way to my bedroom, Fully intending to settle down under all the blankets I have on my bed.
I made it all the way to my bedroom before my beat up old flip phone buzzed, Letting me know I had a text.
A tired sigh left me as I pulled the old grey thing out of my pocket, Flipping it open to read the message.
'S.O.S. We fucked up. Help.'
It was from Bird, Followed soon after by texts from Olivia and Mia.
So much for resting I guess. . .
Dragging my hand down my face, I took a moment to breath before turning on my heel and heading towards the front door.
I was exhausted, But. . .My gang and those that we protect come before my own wants.
Before I left, I made sure to write a note to let my dad know I was alright and that I was staying over late at my friend's house.
Once I was sure my father wouldn't worry too much about my whereabouts, I made my way out onto the sidewalk, Pulling the jacket I had grabbed on my way out closer to my body, Trying to block out the biting cold.
While I walked, I dialed up Olivia's phone number.
Time to figure out what's going on. . .
--- Time skip ---
One of the people we were protecting had slipped through the cracks of our background checks.
He was a member of a legit adult gang.
Key word, Was.
His ex gang found out we were protecting him from them and apparently they've shown up at our hide out to have a little 'chat'.
Their leader was here to speak with me, Bird, Olivia and Mia were distracting them for now so I could get there.
Our abandoned factory hideout was bustling with activity when I was let through the doors.
I could feel the anxious feeling in the air when I stepped inside.
''Alex. . .Send everyone home. . .Then head home yourself. . .I rather not have anyone getting hurt'' I muttered, Having already gestured the other boy over to me.
''You sure about that? Things are gonna go to shit without at least a few members here to keep things moving'' Alex, One of my slightly more trusted gang members pointed out, Moving to do as I said even as he spoke.
''I know, But it'll be safer for them. . .'' I pointed out before making my way towards my makeshift office.
Inhaling slowly, I did my best to numb my emotions in preparation of the discussion I was heading towards.
There were from what I could see, Twenty or so adults gathered inside the room.
Fuck me I guess. . .So much for resting.
--- Time skip ---
It was dawn by the time I was done fixing this giant cluster fuck of a problem.
To say I was exhausted was an understatement.
''Holy shit I'm going to pass out, Olivia, Carry me'' Mia groaned out, Falling dramatically into her girlfriend's arms.
Olivia, Ever the patient and doting girlfriend that she is, Didn't even protest, Opting to scoop her soulmate up instead.
''Want me to carry you?'' Bird offered me teasingly.
Rolling my eyes, I lightly punched his shoulder, A small smile growing on my face as he dramatically went on and on about 'the abuse!'.
''You guys are going to be the death of me'' I sighed out, Shaking my head as I spoke.
''We'll shed lots of tears at your funeral'' Oliva shot back, Without a second's hesitation.
''You might, I'll be taking bets on who comes up with the most creative stories for the eulogy'' Mia laughed out, Her arms wrapped around her girlfriend's neck.
''I got you Mia, Don't worry, I'll come up with the wildest story'' Bird assured her, Giving her a fist bump.
''Why have you guys thought so much about my death?'' I questioned loudly, Cutting off their continued discussions about my funeral.
''Just don't question it. . .Off topic, do you wanna join us in a walk down a dark and potentially dangerous alleyway?'' Bird teased, Earning himself yet another punch to the arm.
''I hate you guys'' I chuckled out as they all continued to joke about what they're going to do for my funeral.
Shaking my head, I just smiled fondly.
