Chapter 47: Who are you?

'Your boyfriend is boring, he likes pepperoni pizza and pep pizza only >:(' Mia sent to me sometime around eleven at night, her upset text followed by a bunch of grumpy emojis.

A smile twitched at my lips as I sent back a text scolding her for 'bullying' my boyfriend only to instantly start getting tormented myself by the hyperactive woman.

They were on their way back to the hideout right now, my sweet soul's mate in tow, filled with pizza and most likely questions as well.

Despite me telling him that I was part of a gang and never trying to hide it. . .Clearly my boyfriend never really believed me if his reaction to his rescue was anything to go by.

Bird and Olivia warned me that he was very 'distressed' by everything that happened, including his rescue. . .Leaving me a little bit stressed with what his reaction would be.

What if all of this will scare him off?. . .Funny how I no longer want that anymore. . .

Chuckling bitterly, I went back to more or less pacing a hole in the floor as I tried to settle the rather confusing tangle of emotions inside of me at the thought of my ray of sunshine leaving.

This is exactly why I never wanted to fall for someone. . .

Sighing heavily for the hundredth time, I forced myself to sit down in my chair at the base, my hands anxiously tapping against the arm rests as my people nervously tried their best to avoid my line of sight, sensing my current mood.

Finally after what felt like an eternity of my mind tormenting me, my team returned, Felix safely at the center of their group.

My eyes instantly locked with his as I shot to my feet, ignoring my team members who were going to gather the pizza boxes from the rescue team who brought back extra for everyone.

''Hey love'' I whispered hesitantly as I slipped past my outer ring of members, praying the pet name would appease my lover's anger? Stress? Fear?

Felix froze in place as the rest of my team continued on deeper into the building, leaving the two of us to our privacy as they went to feast on pizza.

I could feel the chill night air leaking into the building from the nearby doors, causing my boyfriend to shiver faintly.

Without a second thought I shrugged out of my jacket and reached out to drape it over my partner's shoulders, doing my very best to ignore is slight flinch and the hurt it caused inside me.

It's. . .It's fine, this is fine, I can handle this. . .

''Who are you. . .Who are you really?'' Felix asked quietly, his voice barely above a whisper in reality but sounding damn near like a shout to my stressed ears.

Swallowing thickly, I tired to forced myself to deepen my breaths, to calm down, stressing out only risked me snapping on accident and hurting him. . .Emotionally or physically it didn't matter, I never want him hurt at my hands or words.

''I'm. . .I'm Ashton hill, I'm the leader of a rather powerful protection gang that handles the entire east side of this state. . .I uh, I have a lot of connections in high up places, I like fruit and I'm rather fond of red, blue and brown colors?'' I murmured back, scratching at my head as I spoke, my skin itching from the anxiety practically crawling under my skin.

Felix watched me silently the entire time I introduced myself, his hands buried in my jacket, holding it tightly closed around himself instead of just zipping it up.
