It wasn't a pleasant morning especially for the old steward. Now that Master Valentine had placed a great responsibility on Alonzo's shoulders. He had to make sure everything went according to their plan not to forget that also included looking after Prince Demian and Princess Seraphina. He huffed. He had been taking measurements on the situation and they had never thought it would become this dire. He wondered how Master Valentine would react at the moment. As he recalled the advisor's wrinkled face getting more wrinkles and giving deadly glares, Alonzo decided, it was best not to remember his face in this dire situation. Situation that involved wizards.
Wizards!
Again wizards! First, the young prince and princess were attacked by them and now the illegal trading as well!
Well, nothing would ever come out good if that involves wizards... No wonder the King had forbidden all sort of trading with them. As if it was in their nature to play with others. He fisted his palms as he didn't like the fact that wizards were meddling with their dragon nation. And now that had been giving his Highness quite a great headache. It might worsen the young Prince's health!
They were wicked and cunning and now after Alonzo found out about their involvement with this city, it made him despise them more.
He huffed again. He went to the great hall where families of the nobles still was staying. They were weeping or crying now and he saw Mrs Heartstone taking care of them. She indeed was a great person and he felt she shouldn't be here but his hands were tied. While Lady Cathride was trying to calm the women and patting the children so they can sleep peacefully the others were just minding their own business and all of them had taken shelter at the hall. Some had slept on the ground and some had placed aside the plates and had taken the tables as their beds. Even after they were stripped down from their posts, they still had the same ego glinting in them. He almost scowled at them. No wonder Prince Demian didn't like them.
He had seen the young Prince since his birth and saw how he had been seen as a bad omen and not to forget his dark sides. He had witnessed it all and now he was glad that the young prince had grown up and he knew exactly whose doing it was. He smiled inwardly.
The Dragon guards still stood straight in their armours and kept doing their job without blinking an eye. As he entered the hall, he dismissed them while accounted the next batch. They needed their rest after all.
As he was leaving, Lady Cathride came and asked with pleading eyes, "Can you provide us food and water?"
Alonzo looked at her with wide eyes as she corrected her sentence, "It would be great if you could provide food only for the children at least?"
Alonzo's eyes moved around and he saw some children were sleeping and others were crying as they were hungry. The previously day's food were finished as well.
He nodded as he knew Prince Demian would not allow their parents to have anything in a moment like this. At least the children could have sone food and water. He hoped the prince wouldn't be angry and called out some of the guards.
"Tell the cook to make food for the children." He ordered as the guard left.
Alonzo went ahead to the entrance and found the yard was a mess. People were running here and there even the guards were trying to handle them.
Many horse carriages stood outside and some inside the yard as he found the Lords who went to take their property papers and golds waited in lines. They all had exhaustion, worry, anger even sadness carved in swirls on their faces. Black bags had appeared under their eyes and their hair was ruffled which was finely combed the previous day. Now their faces had shrunken. Good! They needed to know what they had done wrong.
