"Hurry! He's over there!" the ambulance arrived, hurriedly ran towards him on the tainted carpet floor.
My body shook at the sight of deep red dripping through his shoulder. I took a step back, away from the scene.
My heart was thumping hard inside my chest, shocked by the unexpected events that happened.
As my emotions were all over the place, I couldn't move. My eyes were stuck at the body sprawled on the floor.
He's covered in deep red.
I felt shocked, frightened and...scared.
I bit my lower lip, drifted my eyes away and clenched my fist tight. I wasn't able to avoid it.
I should have stopped it...
People were all over the place, some were on the door, glancing and whispering meanwhile others hurried home.
I couldn't think straight, I wanted to move and run after the ambulance, but my feet wouldn't budge.
I can't move.
"Jennie!" someone engulfed me in a tight embrace, knocking my breath out from my lungs. A minty fragrance hit my nostrils. The action triggered my tears as it brimmed my eyes as I silently whimpered.
I missed this smell, it's been too long.
"Why does it have to be like this?" I shakily spoke, looking back at my father's bloody shoulder as he was brought outside where the ambulance was waiting.
"T-Taehyung, h-he's bleeding," I cried as he turned me around and gently pulled me against his chest while rubbing my back in comfort.
"The police shot his shoulder to catch him off guard, he was about to shoot someone, Jen" he explained, leading me towards the chairs as he made me sit down while I was catching my breath.
"Hey...don't cry anymore please," he whispered gently, wiping off the tears from my cheeks. I looked up to see his pained expression making my heart squeeze.
"I know that he's using me for his own greed, but..." I paused, closing my eyes shut.
"It's because he's still your father, " I nodded my head, fiddling with my fingers.
I knew that I was caged inside the mansion for years, learning to become an heiress of our family's title. He always had high expectations of me, too busy to ask for my wellbeing.
He was more of another person of authority in the mansion rather than my father, but that's the thing.
He's still my father, the man who took part in gaving me life.
I loved him, I really did.
"Still, he still deserves it for using my mother and me for his own benefit. I'm worried as his daughter, but on the other hand, I'm relieved as Jennie," I sighed, leaning my head on his shoulder as my eyes were fixed at the altar.
"Am I...finally free Taehyung?" I whispered, looking up at him with curious eyes. He smiled, delicately patting my head.
"Do you feel free Jennie?" he answered with a question, making my head churn.
Am I free?
I contemplated inside my head, gazing off in a distance. I felt Taehyung pulling his hand and stood up, bowing at the policeman.
"Mr Kim, we'll be interrogating him for his cases after he wakes from his slumber. His wife already permitted that we'll transfer him back to Korea. Thank you for the notice and keep safe," the policeman bowed before he walked away.
I stood back beside Taehyung with a confused look. "C-Cases?"
"It was originally Embezzlement and High Treason, but he added murder to his cases."
"What..." my lips parted.
"Before I came here, I was searching for something to go against him, yet his records were clean. It was until I dug up further when his company made a contract with ours," he explained, sighing.
"He was in Korea, meeting my father in his office. After his meetings, we found out that our money was stolen from hacking into our system, and took millions. We were on our way to arrest him, but he already took off to another country," he clenched his jaw in irritation. I lifted my hand, putting it on top of his and gave him a small smile.
He squeezed my hand before he continued. "By that time, I finally opened the wedding invitation that Song Kang gave me. A paper fell off the card, and when I picked it up, he was asking for help. He wanted you to be free from your arranged marriage."
My eyes fell on my lap, I didn't know...
"For high treason, he wanted you to marry Song Kang for him to raise his power in the government before he completely takes over the country," he looked away, gazing over Song Kang and his father who was being questioned by a few police officers.
"They knew?" I quietly asked, he only shook his head.
"They didn't up until now."
All I ever did was wishing for them to be happy, but my father— I meant Mr Kim stole from their company and was planning to use Song Kang's father's position. It was too far.
I feel guilty, I pulled my hand out from Taehyung's grasp and covered my face, embarrassed.
"I'm so sor—" he cut me off as he kissed my forehead, my cheeks flushed once he pulled away, gazing at me with a soft gaze.
"It's not your fault, don't pull yourself down because of his faults," he pulled against his chest, as I buried my face at the nape of his neck.
I hugged him tightly, not wanting to let go of his warmth.
"I won't say that everything is okay, but it will be since you'll have us."
The corner of my lips curved up, feeling comforted by his words.
Freedom is something that varies. It can either be physically or mentally deprived of things that seem normal for most people.
Whether it's because of your parents, family, friends, lovers and maybe, even from yourself.
I've been through a lot of challenges these past months, but I didn't do it alone. I wasn't alone anymore since I have them.
Even if you lost your trust in giving other people chances, it's worth it to try again and find people that deserve the trust you gave them.
People might break you, but the right kind of people can fix you to become a better version of yourself.
If you questioned the past Jennie Kim, she wouldn't dare go against her parents for her freedom. She'll think your crazy.
Things changed, and this time, for the better.
