the first letter

( .˳⁺⁎˚ ꒰ఎ ♡ ໒꒱ ˚⁎⁺˳ . )

A small white letter fluttered out of my locker. I stared at it for a while as it lay on the wooden floor. My eyes flickered around momentarily before I deciding to pick it up, since no one else was around. It was the evening so I assumed most people were in their dorms getting ready for dinner hall.

My fingers glossed over the pristine white letter before I carefully ripped the seal. My eyes widened as I opened the folded note.

Dear Y/N,

I feel things around you I've never felt before, and I'm not sure how much longer I can conceal these feelings. I'm scared my heart will explode, but I'm too afraid to confess my feelings in person, so I'll hide behind these letters.

Lots of love,
Your secret admirer

I re-read the letter, feeling as if my eyes were deceiving me. A soft warm feeling bubbled inside of me and a sub-conscious smile graced my face. I wasn't even sure it was real, maybe a prank my friends were playing on me.

I clutched the note and quickly walked to my dorm, my black shoes clicking against the polished school floors. Once in my dorm I collapsed on my bed, pondering over who the letter could be from. A loud noise coming from the front of my dorm pulled me out of my head. I looked at the door without moving for a while before the knocking returned.

"Who is it?" I called, not desiring to move from my current position.

"Cassie."

I groaned, pulling myself up and walking over to my mirror placed on my desk. I fixed my hair before swinging the door open, smiling at my blonde friend. She brushed past me and made herself comfortable on my bed. I rolled my eyes and closed the door behind her, knowing exactly where this was going.

"I had such a stressful day." She complained, her eyes glued on her long fake nails.

I tilted my head, signalling for her to keep going as I took a seat at my desk. Her blue eyes met mine momentarily before she looked away and started her story. "My boyfriend is mad at me because he saw that Connor posted a picture of us on his story."

"Like your ex-boyfriend Connor?" I asked.

She rolls her eyes, "Obviously bitch, who else?"

I nodded, expecting this kind of response as I continued semi-listening.

"Well, now he won't go with me to the party tonight. He's being such a baby about it."

I mentally cried, pinching the bridge of my nose as I prepared myself for the next few moments.

"Can you come with me Y/ n?" She pleaded, getting up from the bed to intertwin her fingers with mine.

I sighed, "Cassie I can't, I have homework and it's-"

"Aren't you supposed to be my friend? We never spend time together and I'm asking you to do a simple little favour for me and you won't even do it?" She interrupted, her eyes burning into mine as she pulled her face into one of sadness.

A headache began to form as I drew out the possible options I had.
"Ok Cassie. I'll go with you." I sighed. I had a long day and I really didn't want it to end in a fight with Cassie, which would lead to the rest of the group ignoring me until Cassie decided to talk to me again.

She snapped out of her twisted expression and clapped her hands excitedly. "I knew you'd come to your senses. You always do." She smiled at me, revealing her white teeth. "Wear something cute, meet me at my dorm at eight."

I tussled my hair, mad at myself for giving in so easily as I watched her leave my dorm.

Even though I had every right, I found it hard to completely hate Cassie. After all she was one of my first close friends at this school. She even included me into her friend group when I had no one, despite all our numerous differences.

I shook my head, trying to rid my thoughts of the party, wanting to enjoy the few hours I had to myself, my mind completely taken off the letter.

My small pumps clacked against rough gravel roads as we walked a rather large, loud house. I always wondered how Cassie found these parties, as they never seemed to be hosted my people at our school.

"Who's party is this again?" I asked Cassie, rubbing my bare arms in an attempt to keep them warm.

"I think his name was Noah. Or was it Nick? I don't remember."

I let out a small "ah," as the dawning sensation of the fact I was going to a party where I knew no one dawned on me.

We entered the house together and I was immediately hit with the stench of sweaty teenagers. My eyes attempted to adjust to the bright flashing lights.

"I feel bad for their neighbours," I stated, getting a small laugh out of Cassie as she linked her arm through mine.

We walked through the crowds of people but quickly separated after Cassie saw someone she knew. I watched her fleeting body, desperate to call out and cling onto her, but she was gone. A heavy sigh fell from my lips as I plopped myself down on a couch.

After a few moments scrolling through my phone I felt a dip in the couch. I looked up, and immediately shot up.

"Kaito!" I beamed, a smile gracing my face at the familiar presence. He returned my smile and moved closer to me.

"What are you doing here?" He asked, his green eyes meeting mine.

"Cassie dragged me along, but she left me."

He laughed. "Of course. She's like that." I hummed in response and we sat in silence for a while as my eyes searched through the crowds of people, looking for my blond friend.

After a few moments, Kaito's voice interrupted my searching. "Do you want to get out of here? We can go to that noodle place you really like."

I thought about Cassie momentarily, and how mad she'd get if she realised I left. But my heart spoke before my brain and I agreed; letting Kaito drag me out of the loud house.

A soft breath left my mouth when I could no longer hear loud shitty music or shouting teens. I smiled, contempt with Kaito's presence and unaware of the lingering eyes that stalked me from the shadows.

I was unaware of how he stood in the distance, a burning anger rising inside of him as he saw me alone, smiling, with Kaito.
