Chapter 10: Demons Don't Cry
Refresher:

"Wait seriously?!" She yelled. Then fumbling to pull out a tiny mirror.
"OMG YOU'RE RIGHT" she yelled again.

"Yup." I said grinning

She just looked at me. She just had that- that sort of look. And then, while I wasn't focused, she leaned in and gave me a peck and then ran away. With me hot on her trail. Off to see the witches.

Hickory's POV::

It really wasn't that difficult to find the witches. Well maybe. We sort of had to turn around 5 times because we kept missing the house. It's an ordinary house. But you can't see it from afar, alas it is covered up with a protective spell. And only when you come in close range of it, does it appear. And we were running so quickly that we kept passing it over and over.

Anyways. When we finally made it to the house, one of the 4 witches was outside. Her name was "la la" short for Esmeralda. I don't know how those two names came together but they did.

La la lives with her twin, giavanna, and her best friend Alexandra.
The forth witch is very quiet and reserved. Almost as if she's depressed. Her name is Levi.

Nobody really talks to Levi. For she never leaves her room.

But that's besides the point.

"Esmeralda," I say with a smile.

"Hickory, darling." She says as we approach.

I can sense Lou feeling frightened by the witches and their house, but I can't figure out why.

"And you are" la la says turning to Lou.
Lou doesn't speak. She just gives Esmeralda a hard look. I can sense tension in the air, so I hook my arm around her waist and pull her close, in hopes to distract her from the growing tension.

"We'll won't you come inside?" She asked smiling.

Lou said nothing again, so I spoke for us.
"Yes. That would be grand."

La la lead us to the house, holding the door open so we could enter. Lou looked at the door for a moment before finally entering the house.

Lou's POV::

It was her. It was really her.

I never really talk much about my dad, because he's a workaholic. The story about him will be quick and simple,

We lived in Georgia together. He got a job in New York and didn't want to take me. And he left me home with a nanny for a few years.

Esmeralda is/ was my Nanny. Of course her name was different, but it was still her.

She was the WORST nanny there ever was. She barely fed me when it came time. I remember always having to ask my neighbors if they had a yogurt cup I could have. They tried to give me more but I couldn't take it from them. They were just really nice people.

And, she always sent me into the backyard as soon as I got home from school, locking the door behind me until the sun set, and she would unlock it.

This was all before Hickory came along, by the way, and so I had to find ways to "survive" basically.

I was 10! And she had me preparing for the damn apocalypse.

"Please, come in" she said to Hickory and I.

I walked over towards the door. It smelled just like she always did. A weird gingery smell. I finally walked in, muscles ready to strike.

Hickory's POV::

As soon as Lou walked in, Esmeralda tried to follow right behind her but I cut her off with pure speed. Yes she may be a witch, but Demons are above witches in the "power pyramid".

As soon as we were inside, lou sat at the dining room table. And I slid in next to her.

La la sat across from me.

"So why have you decided to visit Hickory?" She asked with a curious tone.

"I have come to tell you I have used your spell to save the love of my life." I finished with a glance at Lou.

She suddenly understood.
"Is- Is she a Demon? She has all the qualities of a demon." She claimed.

"No. I am only sharing my Aura with her." I said.

"Well...you've made a mistake." Esmeralda said. Looking at me and then Lou.

"What?" I asked, edge to my tone.

"Hickory how could you forget?" She asked, sorrow in her voice.

"Forget what?!" I practically yelled.

Lou answered this time. Looking straight ahead as if in a trance.

"It won't last forever, the magic." She finished.

I swear I felt tears at my emotionless eyes.

"What?" I croaked out. Looking at Esmerelda.

"Our magic won't last forever. We- I tried to tell you during the training but you never listened. She's going to have the pain again in probably a month. That will be her death if you don't find a way to save her" she said. Not even a single expression slipped across her face.

While Lou on the other hand, sat in the chair, looking at me with a mix of hate, love, and sadness.

"Nanny Esla?" Lou spoke up.

La la reached across the table and smacked her so hard it hurt MY face.

"I knew it was you you terrible child. How dare you kindle in my Dear Hickory's Life. You should have never been brought into this world." She spoke, voice full of true hate.

Lou said nothing. She just looked at Eamerelda. Looked at her like nothing had happened.

She stood up. Turned to me, and kissed me. Not hard and weird, and not too soft, but that perfect in-between.

I could feel la la's intentions even before the kiss was over. And as soon as she brought her hand up to strike, Lou was already at the door, waiting for me to join her in leaving.

So I followed her. We ran and ran, until we were so lost we decided to sleep in the woods.

When we woke up, Lou was human again. My aura was returned to me. Weird, I don't remember taking it back....I do feel more rested with all of my power rather than half.

I sat in our little fort we build... And tried to think before Lou awoke, and my mind kept wandering back to what Esmeralda said.

"I think I've made a decision" I claimed to Lou's sleeping self.

"We have a date with satan."
I said with a chuckle.
