I walk slowly into the apartment. Mom,Aunt Rydel, Uncle Ryland, Uncle Ross, and Uncle Ellington sit at the table as they talk. I stop in my tracks, looking at them. Dad nudges my shoulder. I turn and bury my face in his side. He sighs deeply. "Baby, it's okay. they're here for you," He pulls me to the table. I shake my head and back away. "Ell," he whispers as he reaches for my hand. "I won't hurt you, come sit with me."

"I'm scared," I whisper as I sit in the chair next to him.

Mom hugs me for a few seconds. "No need to be. we just want to help you," she says sweetly.

After about an hour of listening to everyone talk, I lay on the couch. "daddy," I call in a horse voice.

He walks over to me. "you want me to sit with you?" He asks as he moved hair sway from my vision. I nod, closing my eyes. "okay," he smiles as he climbs on the couch. I lay my head on his lap, almost drifting to sleep. but everyone got up to leave.

Mom must've thought I was sleeping when she came over to us. "are you going to put her in her bed?" She asks.

"No," he simply replies.

She looks at him, then me. "why not?" She snaps.

"Because if she needs me here, so she can sleep, I'm going to stay here as long as she needs me," he growls.

She sits in front of us, on the coffee table. "She's almost 16, she needs to sleep in her own room. "

"Last time she was in that fucking room, she almost died. if she isn't ready to go in there, I'm not making her. Who gives a fuck about her age? That doesn't affect my love and protection over her," He spits.

She scoffs and walks off. I sit up. "I'll sleep in my room. please stop fighting," I beg.

he nods slowly. "okay, princess. let's go," he carries me to my bed. Pressing his lips to my forehead, he covers my body with the blanket. "good night, sweet dreams, I love you."

I close my eyes. "night, I love you too."

"Ella, it's almost 3 in the afternoon. Are you going to get up?" Mom sweetly whispers.

I shake my head. "not today," I mumble.

She sighs before leaving. a few minutes later, dad walks in and sits next to me. "How are you feeling, baby?" He presses his lips to my forehead.

"really tired," I say bluntly.

"do you want something to eat or drink?" He offers.

I shake my head again. "No thanks."

he lays down next to me. "Are you scared of me?" He whispers.

I shrug. "I'm scared of everything," I admit.

he sighs deeply. "Okay, I'll leave you alone. I'll check on you later." He leaves after I witness a year fall.

I lay in my lifeless room. "why do I keep pushing people away?" I ask myself aloud.

"because you're a worthless, scared piece of shit." I mumble.

some bursts in the door. "No, you aren't. get up," dad growls. I get up and follow him to the living room. "sit," he points to the couch.

I sit next to mom. "Ella, are you okay? Riker stop snapping at her." She looks at me as I snuggle into her. "what's wrong, sweetheart?" She holds me tightly.

I sob softly. "I don't know why I keep pushing people away. I guess I'm just scared," I cry out.

dad sits next to me. "She called herself a worthless piece of shit," he whispers.

mom tightens her grip around me. I sob harder. "shhh," she rubs my back. "what're you scared of? you know we would never hurt you, right?" she asks as she attempts to sooth me.

I nod. "I know, I'm just scared to let people in. I don't want the same thing to happen to you that happened to my mom."

dad gets up, pacing back and forth. "let's go. right now. I'm done sitting around and watching her tear herself apart," he blurts. "go get her ready while I get our shit."

Mom nods and pulls me to my room. I give her a questioning look. "we're going on a vacation," she sighs.

I shake my head and run to the bathroom. I lock the door, sliding down the wood and sobbing into my hands.
