"She just wants to be, beautiful she goes, unnoticed she knows no limits she craves, attention she praises, an image she prays to be, sculpted by the sculptor."

She glared at her reflection; her sunken hazel eyes seemed glummer than usual, her crippled figure shined in her already teary eyes. Her hair was a tangled mess of brown much the same as what a bird's nest would look like. Her previously blush tinged cheeks were now a pale white.

"Oh, she don't see, the light that's shining, deeper than the eyes can find it, maybe we have made her blind. So she tries to cover up her pain, and cut her woes away, 'Cause cover girls don't cry after their face is made."

Her bleeding arm stared back at her, her plump face now replaced by haggard ones. Her conscious filled with teasing remarks. "Look at her, is she even a human or just an elephant in disguise?" Atrocious laughter rang in her ears. "Can she do anything apart from eating?" Agonizing snickers flashed through her mind. She asks herself, "What did she do to have gotten a wheelchair as her lifelong partner...?" What crime did she commit in being handicapped...? Was she really just a hindrance...? Did she really serve no purpose...?

She has dreams to be an envy, so she's starving you know, cover girls eat nothing, she says, beauty is pain and there's beauty in everything, what's a little bit of hunger? I could go a little while longer. She fades away... She don't see her perfect, she don't understand she's worth it
or that beauty goes deeper than the surface.

She doesn't understand that the opinions of others don't matter; that she is beautiful just the way she is. She doesn't understand that beauty is more than a toned body, tan skin, and a perfect smile. She doesn't realize that she has people who love her just the way she is; she doesn't accept that her kind personality and amiable charisma is more than enough. She doesn't understand that she is worth it...

There's a hope that's waiting for you in the dark, you should know you're beautiful just the way you are, and you don't have to change a thing, the world could change its heart. No scars to your beautiful, we're stars and we're beautiful.

She turns around to see her sister. Her acid charred face gazing her own. Her previously plump lips now chapped. Her sleek black hair tied hastily into a messy ponytail. Her perfect figure covered with baggy clothes. Her glinting green eyes boring into hers. She seems to notice blood pouring down her arms and her expression morphs into regret, then sadness before pausing at compassion tinted with pity.

Her soft palms graze her cheeks with utmost understanding; she moves it towards her little sister's shoulders and guides her towards her bed. "Amelia," She says, her voice dripping with sorrow. "Amelia look at me." She urges, placing her hand under Amelia's trembling chin and tilts her upwards face to meet hers. "Amelia listen to me. You matter. Even though you consider yourself to be ugly and disgraceful, you have to know that you matter to me. You matter to our parents who have raised you with utmost kindness and love. Beauty isn't everything; there are many other ways to show the world that you won't give up easily." She paused, her eyes were broken and grief-stricken. "Do you think I don't suffer through my daily dose of hardships? Oh, I do, trust me people have a library full of comments to prove their superiority. Believe me when I say this." She took a deep breath before continuing.

"Those who make fun of you aren't sure of themselves. They do it so they can feel important, so they can be on top of the food chain to block out their personal issues. To ignore their problems. Amelia, you are beautiful, even though your outer charm isn't amazing, it doesn't mean that you are not beautiful. Acknowledge the fact that beauty goes much deeper than the surface. Your nature, your individuality, and your courtesy is what makes you beautiful. Remember this forever and make a difference in the world." Her breath hitched when she said this, Amelia figured she wanted to make a difference as well. "There are a million other girls who go through this every day, do it for them, fight for them because they matter as much as you. In addition, keep in mind that I am here for you, look back on the love mother and father gave us and you will succeed in life. If you ever feel your walls crumbling, remember that you are not alone. There is always another way..." Melany smiled fondly at her little sister before crushing her in a tight embrace. Amelia felt moisture on her t-shirt and realized her sister had been crying. In that moment, she decided to fight for herself and all those other girls who were facing the same situation she was currently facing.

So to all the girls, that's hurting, let me be your mirror, help you see a little bit clearer the light that shines within. Cause there is no better you than the you that you are. No better life than the life you're living. No better time for your shine, you're a star. Oh, you're beautiful, oh, you're beautiful.

20 years later...

Today, Amelia is a world-known motivational speaker; encouraging millions of girls to be who they desire and not change themselves for others. She has won multiple awards, paying tribute to her sister and parents in each one of her accomplishments for their endless support. So to all the girls that are hurting let her be your mirror, help you see a little bit clearer the light that shines within you... Remember you are beautiful just the way you are!
