I hit another of my jump floats. Everyone already sees them as perfect but to me, it's not good enough. I can't blow away the competition if it's not better than everyone else's. I figure after I emptied the basket again I would clean and the gym. As I finish mopping the floor I leave and lock the door to the gym. I walk towards the male's dorms with my phone in my hand. I go to check the time and realize that it was around 11.

"Damn I didn't mean to practice so late," I mutter underneath my breath as I walk towards my dorm. I look up and was met with my girlfriend kissing someone on the basketball team. I stepped back and hid behind a pillar trying to make sense of everything. I started tugging on my hair as tears fall from my eyes.

"Maybe we should stop before we get caught," Kiara tells the guy.

"Oh come on princess you know your boyfriend is too busy playing volleyball to see us. Hell, he even missed your anniversary date a couple of weeks ago. What kind of a boyfriend is that."

'Anniversary? That isn't until next week. What is he talking about?' I think in my head as I continue to listen. I put my head against the pillar as I wipe my tears still overhearing their conversation.

"Maybe your right but we still have a curfew, I should get going before my roommate thinks I'm sleeping over again."

I hear him hum, "When are you going to break it off so we can make it official?"

"Soon. I plan to do it in the next couple of days."

"Alright," I hear them kiss again, "I can't wait until we make it official. People already believe you two broke up already."

'Is this true? Have I been such a bad boyfriend that people don't believe we are together?' I'm brought out of my thoughts as I start hearing steps coming my way so I moved around the pillar so nobody sees me. I hear the doors open and close from the building and I peak to see if there was anyone there. I saw nobody and I waited a couple of minutes before walking through the double doors, passing the common room, and open the door to my dorm.

I wasn't thinking straight when I entered my dorm as I sat on my balcony with my contacts open. To be honest I wasn't thinking at all when I started calling my girlfriend. "Hello?" I hear from the other side.

"Kiara, I saw you."

"Well, why didn't you say hi?"

"No. Kiara I saw what you were doing with that guy. "I take a deep breath, "The Captain of.. the basketball team."

"Y/n." I hear her sigh over the phone, "I meant to tell you sooner, and in person—."

"How long?"

"How long what?"

"How long have you been cheating?" I croak out trying my best to be strong and not break down and cry.

I hear another shaky exhale from Kiara, "Three months."

"Three! Three months..." I kneel as I feel like I'm suffocating, 'How could I have been so blind to not see that she was unhappy. How could I not see that she had already moved on whilst dating me?'

"Y/n you never had time for me anymore. Not only that you never gave me time to break the news to you."

"I'm sorry. Go be happy with him."

"Y/n..."

"Goodbye, Kiara."

"...Goodbye Y/n."

Breakups were always messy, whether only one side felt pain or both. There was always pain in breakups when two past lovers plan to never be around each other again.
