Chapter Four: Saviour
"Kill?" Danny was terrified, someone wanted to kill Kristian, no, someone sent someone to kill him. What was going on.
"Don't worry, I'll deal with him, stay behind me." Kristian stood in front of the young boy who cowered at the danger they faced, wrapping his arms around the powerful man's waist. Another bolt was fired and it landed next to Kristian's feet, he didn't flinch, as if he knew it wasn't going to hit its mark. Two more came down from the crest of the rocks, throwing up his hand within a fraction of a second from him spotting them to "Snap" and burn them away like the first. "Seems you don't know what you're trying to kill, fuckin' idiot. I'm gonna roast your ass before the sun does." His shout was filled with rage, even Danny was afraid of the man who stood there.
"You try your best to intimidate me but my task here is final, you will die K." He spoke with determination, this man wouldn't stand down no matter what the odds were against him. He fired two shots at the man, they were set alight as per usual but this was a ploy, from the smoke and ash came a third shot.
"Shit" Kristian had no time to react, it was hidden under a veil of his own creation. He felt hands grasping his knees and pushing them from the back, he buckled and the bolt flew just above his head.
"You alive still?" The voice of the little boy was quiet. Kristian turned with a smile on his face. "Yeah, I got this." He looked up to their assailant and sent a line of flame up to the rock formation, reacting with the oxygen along with his own abilities the flames erupted into a plume of smoke. Choking and coughing came from the dense blackness and then a figure in white fell from the high place, they seemed to fall slowly but as Kristian aimed up for another attack the target all but disappeared.
"Uh, is- is he still here?" Danny asked, it seemed no trace was left of him. He felt as if he was being taken by the hand, he believed it was Kristian but that couldn't be right, a cold hand was grabbing him. This chilling touch wrapped over his neck and held it tightly, a similarly chilling breath washed over his ear. "Guess I can kill you as well." The same eerie voice from the rocks was right behind him, what the hell, they moved so fast.
"Danny!?" Kristian turned quickly to see the cloaked man, grabbing Danny by the neck. He threw up his right hand but stopped in his tracks, he couldn't do anything with his flames considering he had Danny in his grasp.
"You make one move to save yourself or to free the child then he will be finished. I have orders to kill the man responsible for the fire two years back, I intend to go back successful." The man took a step back, keeping one hand on the throat of the little boy and raising one to point at the heart of his opponent. "Your life ends here."
"Fuck you." He knew this man was going to kill Danny anyway even when he killed him, he couldn't let that happen. Watching this scene was horrifying, the young boy wriggling to escape and clawing at the hand that held him captive, he was defenceless. Kristian felt a wash of pain run over his whole body as a bolt fired from the man's hand, it only grazed him but the pain was extraordinarily great. Why did it basically miss, the range was pretty much point blank, then that's when he saw her.
"The heck do you think you're doing to this poor kid and his dad? Trying to kill them? I get you're angry, you've got a powerful grudge, I can feel the hate. I'd want to kill them too if I were you. But I'm not, so I'm just gonna knock you out." After pulling the assailant's arm just enough to the side that the shot was only going to cause minor injuries she took him by the hair and pulled him to the floor, he released the boy and was smashed against the dusty ground below. The white cloaked figure blacked out as his cranium made contact with the rocks, he was no longer a threat.
"You guys ok?" She spoke with a surprisingly kind tone for some who'd just caved in someone's skull in the middle of a desert for no apparent reason. The young girl was short with a slim figure, though that wasn't clear due to her bulky jacket. Her tanned skin made her white hair really stand out, along with her grey eyes. She smiled at the two for a second before talking once more despite not getting an answer.
"You're lucky I take walks around here, my home isn't too far away, just over there." She gestured to a place beyond the rocks. "Well, I say home but I mean crappy little house that I'm staying in cause I just came here. But yeah, you two woulda been screwed without me. I think I deserve some thanks." She obviously thought a lot of herself, a trait in someone that Kristian hated. Danny didn't care much though, this girl saved him and Kristian and for that he was very grateful.
"Uh, yeah, you do. We don't really have anything to give you to say thank you but I'm really glad you came around." He looked at the girl, she didn't seem to be much older than him, she placed her hand on his shoulder and looked into his bright eyes.
"You're an honestly good kid, I know you wouldn't lie." She tapped him on the head and rustled his hair, now walking to Kristian, she put her hand out to be shaken but he didn't take it. "Rude, I just saved your life and you won't shake my hand. I could've just left the two random people I saw alone to be killed by that man there but I did the good thing by saving you, it's the least you can do to show your gratitude." She was very clearly angry with the man, Danny looked at him with a displeased look too.
"You may have saved us but I don't need to give you anything for it, the fact that you saved someone should be enough, they don't owe you anything for your good acts. And to think you should get something is quite the annoying trait." He kept his hands in his pocket, wincing when he remembered the slash in his side.
