They take time staring at the small kid inside the ICU private room. A lot of tubes are connected to her body and the screen beside the bed keeps on beeping.
"Wow," Yuna exclaimed, almost kissing the glass on how near she is.
Lia nudges her side. "What do you mean 'wow'?" She whispered, sending the signal to Yuna to be more sensitive and careful about her words.
Jisoo cleared her throat. "How did this happen, Irene?" She asked which makes the others turn their attention back to Irene.
The latter looks at her daughter inside the room before facing her friends. "Let's go outside,"
They went to a convenience store and sit on the tables outside while eating the food they bought inside.
"Remember the lone mission I took when I'm not yet an official agent because Yeri and Joy are not on the senior island yet?" Irene asked after they settled in.
"That time when you're gone for a year?" Wendy asked and Irene nods her head.
"And you just came back because the group assembly is going to start after the new agents arrive on the island," Seulgi added and Irene once again nods her head.
"I left because I'm pregnant," she said which cause them to gasp. "I gave birth and hide it from everyone-"
"Unnie! That was like... Three years ago!" Yeri exclaimed in disbelief.
"Y-Yeah, I-"
"W-Wait!" Joy stopped her before she even starts explaining again. "H-How?" She asked but can't find the exact word she wants to say. "I... I mean, how did you got pregnant? H-How did it happen?" She asked which makes the others nod.
"It was an accident, It was when the announcement of us passing the test happened. All the new agents in the senior island got into a party and I... I got drunk, or rather got drugged, I don't know," she sighs then look down in her hands above the table, "The moment I open my eyes the next day, I was naked in a bed with... " She looks in her friends' eyes as if asking for permission to continue, "With Suho,"
"What?!"
Irene sigh, just as she expected them to react.
"Unnie! You should've told us! We should've to beat the hell out of that jerk!" Seulgi shouted which earned a little attention from the people around them.
"She's right unnie! You keep it from us! From us unnie!" Yeri added as she slams the table.
Irene sigh, "The thing is, I can remember everything that happened, and... And I was the one who initiated it,"
It calmed them down a little. Too shocked to hear it.
"B-But still! You're drunk! Or probably drugged too! He shouldn't take advantage of that!" Joy said, matching Seulgi and Yeri's mood earlier.
"You should've told us unnie, we're together ever since we were born," Wendy said in a matter-of-fact tone.
Irene looks down in embarrassment. "I know, I'm sorry, I'm scared to tell anyone about it, I'm really sorry,"
"Does Lisa know?" Chaeyoung suddenly asked which makes Irene look up at her. "Does she?" She asked again.
"No," Irene answered, almost a whisper.
"So this is your little secret," Chaeyoung said. "This explains the flight details, how about the phone call?"
"I was talking with Mavis that time, she woke up, but a few weeks ago, her condition got critical again," Irene's eyes got teary at the mention of it. "I left her to someone when I go back to the island, she technically live without me and I feel so horrible about that but I just can't take myself admitting it to you guys, especially to Lisa, knowing that she'll get hurt,"
"And you think that keeping it from her won't hurt her?" Jisoo broke her silence.
"I know!" Irene wipes her tears using the back of her palm so Yeri handed her a tissue. "I was planning on telling it to her but things got fvcked up," she said then look at them. "I found out that Mavis have a heart disease two years ago, I started spending money to cure her, I'm also flying right over from Korea to New York just to see her from time to time, I want to be with her every time but it's so hard," she sobs as Wendy started rubbing her back to at least calm her down.
They just let her cry and let it all out. Itzy remains silent as they don't want to interrupt anything.
"I... Uhh, I actually know about it guys," Jennie suddenly said since Irene seems unable to talk anymore due to her crying. The others look at Jennie, "I find out about it just a year ago, that's why I'm too busy and can't even make a time to visit, because I'm taking care of Mavis," she explained.
Silence.
Yeri and Wendy keep on trying to calm Irene down since she's crying a lot while the others just stay silent and try to process everything.
After a while, they go back to the hospital to bid their goodbyes to Mavis even though she can't hear them before they all go back to the airport since it'll be a long flight again.
Jisoo needs to go back quickly because she has daughters while the others have works.
The flight was silent as they're still taking everything in their mind when Irene suddenly broke it.
"I was planning on moving here to take care of Mavis," she said while looking outside the window. "I have a branch in New York so it'll be easy for me, I can also focus on Mavis if I'm here,"
No one answered. They're sad about it, sure, but they know they can't do anything about it. They also know that being alone in her penthouse where she used to live with the love of her life is killing her, so, they understand.
A week or so, Irene got everything ready. She makes sure to finish her work in Korea before she moves out.
Jennie is already in New York, looking after Mavis and just waiting for Irene to arrive.
Chaeyoung came back to Australia three days ago but not before patching everything up with Irene so she won't leave with a heavy heart.
"Hey baby," she put the flower just beside Lisa's engraved name. "I'm leaving, but don't worry, I'll visit you when I have time," she sniffs, trying to stop herself from crying again, "I'll focus on Mavis this time around to fulfill my duty as a mother, okay?"
She failed, tears started streaming down her face.
"Don't be sad, okay? I'll be back, I just need time to breathe," she covers her mouth as if it'll help to stop the sobs that are coming out of her. "I'm sorry for keeping it to you,"
She stayed there for a few minutes, calming herself down. "I need to go, I'll miss you, no, I miss you, everyday," she kisses her fingers then press them against Lisa's name. "I love you," she breaths out before wiping her tears and turning around to walk away.
Asking her driver to start the car, she looks outside the window, taking everything in her mind, she'll surely miss Seoul, especially she has a lot of memories here with Lisa. But she's suffocating, and her daughter needs her.
It'll be a new journey not just for her, but for her friends too.
A new journey without Lisa.
