Author's Note: This is Hyrule's backstory. The next chapter will be Luciana's backstory. The rest of the story will be told from her point of view. Some basic knowledge of the Legend of Zelda will help to understand races and terms.

Hyrule. A land of prosperity and peace. It was lush with flowing rivers, vast oceans, tall mountains, green fields, thick forests, and even burning sands. Many forms of life called the land home. From the water born Zora, to the rock strong Goron; Hyrule gave life to all types of creatures and was watched over by four Goddesses who created it. Din, who created and carved the landscape into it's beauty. Nayru, who brought law and order to the chaos it was created from. Farore, who created the lifeforms that would prosper in the new land. And lastly, Hylia, who guarded the lands and its new life.

That was till one day when an evil threatened the land. It pushed chaos and darkness over the order and light, turning its creatures into monsters and filling the land with greed and destruction. The evil was named Calamity Ganon. It's reach spread quickly, destroying so much of Hyrule in its wake as it threatened to swallow the land whole.

It was up to the Goddesses to save it or lose everything to its wake, but they were not strong enough to defend against the darkness. Din, Nayru, and Farore fell weak in the fight. Hylia tried her best but she could not do it alone. Calamity Ganon was just too much and threatened to end the Goddesses starting with Hylia. However, a young hylian man stepped into the fight. Even though he could not hope to stop a force the goddesses failed against, his limitless courage pushed him to try.

With the last of their strength, Din, Nayru, and Farore poured their power into his sword. With the help of the hero, Hylia was able to seal the evil of Calamity Ganon away but it cost her everything she had as well as the hero's life as he was far to injured to survive. Using the last of her strength, she immortalized the hero's soul to thank him for his help. He would be reborn again for when Hyrule needed him most. Hylia, herself, lost her physical form and turned herself mortal to be reborn within Hyrule's new royal family.

The sword the hero held was sealed into a pedestal as it was infused with the other 3 Goddesses powers, now gifted with the power to repel evil and became to be known as the Master Sword. It was only to be wielded by the reborn spirit of the hero who sacrificed himself to save the land. Only he could remove it from where it was left to sleep. A forest soon grew around it to protect it till it was needed once again.

The royal family thrived in the new land as it recovered from the darkness that almost destroyed it. Hylia was reborn into the first born princess. Zelda. Zelda was a beloved girl and tradition quickly spread to name every first born princess- Zelda, in memory of the first incarnation of Hylia. Every queen would start to lose the power of Hylia as the Princess reached the age of 20, becoming the new vessel of the Goddess.

Every time the seal against Calamity Ganon started to break, Princess Zelda and Hylia's chosen reborn hero would step up and stop the evil before it could threaten the land. The other Goddesses would also grant their power to others they deemed worthy enough to help support the destined pair.

This has been the legends foretold for a millennia.
