Take back my life song

Prove I'm alright song

My power's turned on

Starting right now I'll be strongI

And I don't really care if nobody else believes

Cause I've still got a lot of fight left in me

-Fight Song by Rachel Platten

Sophia woke up the next morning with a massive headache. God if this is what clubbing is then forget it; I'll stay home she said to herself. She looked at the clock on her nightstand. 8 am. So early. But she noticed the ibuprofen and water. A note next to them that simply said drink me. Sophia downed the pills and the entire glass of water. She looked over to see Steve still asleep and tried not to laugh when she saw Bucky on the couch. She gently got out of bed, pulled on her robe, and went to the kitchen on their floor. She made herself a cup of coffee and went to sit on the balcony.

She tried to remember the events from the night before when she noticed the bruises around her wrist. As she thought to herself what happened, the memories hit her like a ton of bricks. The champagne. Dancing with the girls. The drunk guys. Bucky stepping in. The look in his eyes like he was the soldier again. Sophia started to tremble. A voice pulled her back.

"Morning Angel. How ya feeling?"

"Morning James. I'm fine." Sophia tried to take a sip of her coffee, but her hands shake slightly.

"No, you're not Angel. What's wrong? Too much champagne?" He says with a chuckle until he got a good look at her face. Tears silently running down her face. "Oh, Sophia, you remember, don't you?" he asked.

She nodded and kept staring in the distance. "You were hoping I wouldn't remember, didn't you Barnes?" Her voice harsher than she intended.

"Sophia, you were in shock when we tried to leave. I was hoping you would never see the soldier part of me and you did. You looked so scared. And then I got a message from you and everything stopped. I'm sorry for scaring you, doll."

"We're supposed to best friends Barnes. You and me and Steve and Sam. You should be able to tell me anything and everything. You all are my whole world. How am I supposed to help you if I don't know that the solider can just show up at any time? How can I protect you if I don't know you?"

"Protect me? Why would you protect me? I protect you. That's how this works."

"James Buchanan Barnes, if you think I wouldn't do anything to protect you if you were in danger, you have another thing coming." Sophia rises off her seat in anger.

Bucky flinched at his full name being used. "That really is an unnerving trick you have with the names, Sophia."

"Whatever Barnes, don't change the subject."

"Since when do you call me Barnes?"

"Since when do you call me Sophia?"

The friends retreat to opposite ends of the balcony. Bucky sighs in frustration. This woman is the only one who could bring out his anger like this. He walks over and leans against her.
