Title: Back for Tea

Fandom: Once Upon a Time

Character: Jefferson/The Mad Hatter

It had been three days of worrying since Jefferson had left to do something for the queen. You had waited, not so patiently, hoping the job was just taking a while. But, you'd had enough. Something had definitely gone wrong.

You put your hands on Grace's shoulders.

"Sweetie, I need you to go to the neighbor's for a while, okay?," You told her.

"But why? Are you going to try to find papa?" Grace asked.

"Indeed, I am. I promise I'll be back soon with papa, okay?"

"Papa promised and he didn't come back..."

"Grace, I'm sure something just happened and the queen backstabbed him. Not literally. I promise you I'll be back," you told her.

"Are you sure you don't want to leave me? What if that's what papa wanted?" Grace said.

That made your heart hurt. You embraced the child.

"Sweetie, who could ever want to leave you?" You said. "Papa just got in a little trouble, but I'll find him, okay? I'll bring him back and we can have tea."

Grace nodded and you took her to the neighbor's house. Then, you set off to the queen's palace. You knew she'd done something to him. You assumed that Jefferson was stuck in Wonderland.

You finally arrived at the palace. You knocked out the guards with your magic as you neared the queen's quarters. Finally, when you'd almost arrived, you dragged one of the guards with you so that you'd have one other person to go through the hat.

You burst into the queen's room, dragging the guard with you. She seemed somewhat startled, looking back at you. She had been talking to her father. She hardly recognized you as the one who'd accompanied Jefferson before when he'd helped her.

"I know what you did," you growled at her.

"I've done many things, you'll have to be more specific," the queen said arrogantly, eyeing the guard you'd been dragging.

"You know what you did to him," you snarled at her.

"Who?" The queen asked with a mocking smile.

You neared her father, dropping the guard and grabbed her father's heart. Her eyes widened in concern. You began to squeeze lightly.

"Stop," the queen said.

"Where's the hat?" You demanded.

The queen used her magic to make the hat appear in her hand with a puff of purple smoke. You motioned for her to put it down. She did it. You slipped the heart in your pocket briefly, allowing you to spin the hat.

Purple began to swirl, creating a portal. You stepped back to where the unconscious guard was, tossing the heart to the queen. She caught it as you grabbed the guard and jumped into the portal.

After a moment, you were presented with many doors. You looked for the one with a mirror that lead to Wonderland. You dragged the guard through it. You looked at your colorful surroundings, disgusted.

"I hate Wonderland," you mumbled.

You walked for a moment, before dropping the unconscious guard in some tall grass. You made sure the guard wouldn't wake up very soon, then walked away down a dirt path.

You approached a maze. You used your magic to make a door which would lead to Jefferson. You turned the nob and walked through. You looked around to see hats and fabric everywhere. It took you a moment to even see him.

"Jefferson," you said, approaching him.

He looked up, eyes widening.

"(Y/n)!" Jefferson exclaimed, leaping towards you.

You embraced each other tightly, pulling away with a quick kiss. However, your arms still stayed lightly wrapped around him, and he did the same.

"How are you here?" Jefferson asked.

"I got the hat from the queen," you replied.

Jefferson's face dropped worriedly.

"Only one person can leave," Jefferson said.

"That's assuming it was only me to come here," you replied.

Jefferson cocked his head.

"I brought one of the queen's guards," you said.

"You cursed someone to have to stay here?" Jefferson asked.

"He willingly served the queen. And it was either him or you," you explained, hoping Jefferson wouldn't be angry.

He nodded.

"I'd do the same for you," he said.

"Now, let's get out of here and get back for tea," you said, smiling.

You knocked on the neighbors' door. Soon, it was opened. You asked the neighbor for Grace. They said she was in the woods gathering some berries, but would be back soon. You told them to tell her to come back home when she was done and they agreed.

You and Jefferson went home and sat down next to each other. You wrapped your arms around Jefferson and he returned the action. You both buried your heads in the other's shoulder.

"Don't ever do anything for the queen again," you said, voice muffled.

"Believe me, I won't," Jefferson said. "I should have known better. I shouldn't known she'd try to take me from the two people I love most."

"Don't be too hard on yourself. You were just trying to give Grace a better life," you said, pulling your head away from Jefferson's shoulder, putting your hand on his cheek.

"I realized that she's happy the way things are. She has two loving fathers and I guess I just lost sight of that," Jefferson said.

You connected your lips with his. Jefferson began to smile into the kiss and you did as well. You both pulled back for a moment, putting your foreheads together.

"I missed this," Jefferson said.

"Me, too," you replied, connecting your lips once more.

You heard the door open and parted with Jefferson, looking to the door. It was Grace.

"Papa! Father! You're back!" Grace exclaimed, running towards you and Jefferson.

She embraced Jefferson first, then you. She sat in between you and Jefferson. You both put an arm around her back.

"You know something I've wanted the whole time I was gone?" Jefferson asked Grace.

"What, papa?" Grace asked.

"Tea!" Jefferson replied.

Grace giggled and the three of you had a fabulous tea party.
