We are inherently limited, in our human experience. By gravity, In what we can perceive with our 5 senses and in how we think and what we feel (Did you know, you think differently depending on the language you speak and think in? Amazing right). And even though we are limited, humanity continues to priorities the notion of being limitless, with no thoughts for the harm we cause in this quest. Limitless is a false idol, and the more you worship her, the more you lose, have you noticed that? Chasing limitless, you lose the present moment, the gratitude and appreciate for what you have and where you are, and most concerningly you lose perspective. Perspective on yourself, your life and all of the blessings and gifts that you have, experience and receive. Everything exists on a continuum, and playing with extremes at either end of the spectrum has its risks. I used to run from limits, I had no patience or time for them, that foreign and inexplicable concept I wasn't ready to meet. And now... now I value limits in a way I have never felt before.
Limits offer us direction and guidance, limits offer us knowing signs gently nudging us in the direction we most wish to go. Limitless however, well. Limitless is a blackhole. A vacuum. So infinite, voracious and greedy you will disappear. Any semblance of self lost in the void of limitless possibilities. Limits, are your dear friend. Limits help you find yourself. They teach you your no's, your yes's and your boundaries. They uncover your values and offer you the opportunity to prioritise and to choose. They are a powerful and gentle invitation to become purposeful and intentional as you unearth the meaning you so desire. The meaning that brings a light to your eyes and excitement to your voice.
And just like Michelangelo's angel in the marble, the excess just needs to be chipped away. So I invite you to befriend your limits. Let them chip away the excess, piece by piece. The distractions and all the unnecessary elements that are obscuring your vision. As each one falls away, you are moving closer to your masterpiece. You've been there all along. I see you, I hear you. And I hear the stories you've been told. And that's all they are, stories of other worlds and life beyond. Distorted beyond recognition, centralised in pathologising narratives used to justify and excuse the rampant abuses of power in our world. Excuses to continue the destruction and devastation that continues to occur to this wonderful and patient planet and interconnected world we coexist with.
So I invite you to let limits show you a new way. I ask you to remember, that limitless is for the other dimensions. Here, in this human experience, limits are our saviour. You'll find your moral compass and your inner guidance in limits. You will find your priorities and your passions and where to spend your precious energy and time. Trust me, I've been here before. I wished for limitless and I got it. Limitless potentiality was shown to me in the most impossible way, and I realised then, it's not of this world. It's not for us. She showed me limitless so I'd stop chasing it. She paralysed with me with limitless so I had no choice but to pause and recognise the inherent value and essential nature, and ultimately the love, in and of limits. And I learnt the most powerful lessons, the importance of busting the popular myths and narratives. The truth of this resounded through my being. It's impossible to deny. Limits are for you. Guiding you, the foundation of the life you choose. Love your limits, let them teach you and show you the way home to yourself.
