CHRISTIAN'S P.O.V
IT'S LIKE I WAS IN AN alternate universe, because, for the first time in my life, I had murder on my mind as soon as I stepped out of the library. And Walter had tried to stop me.
"Lucas!" I yelled as I approached the field, approximately three yards away from the place my best friend was standing in his ugly shorts, jumping like a three year old. According to my calculations, he should have heard me properly but if he did hear me, he didn't show it. So I started power walking - roll heel, ball, toe ; roll heel, ball, toe - until I was standing right beside Lucas and was stretching out my hand to smack him on the head. He yelped.
"Jesus," Lucas crooned, rubbing his head. "I am sure that was deserved but what did I do?"
"You told Ava that Walter and I are a couple?" I shrieked, my mouth dry, and for a moment was left outstandingly astonished at how similar I sounded to Walter. Shrugging off the absolutely strange, intrusive thought, I fixed my gaze on the six foot three football player in front of me.
"I did not!" Lucas hissed as I pinched him again. "But I might have accidentally let it slip to Ava that you two were almost kissing at the party. I mean, come on now, it's Ava - you know how close she is to us."
"She was," I corrected, a frown on my lips. "She was close to us, before she decided to be controlling and domineering and started thinking of herself as the best. I can't fucking believe you're acting like nothing happened when she quite literally abused you!"
"Come on, Christian," He murmured, his hand on my shoulder. "Do you not remember all the times she was there for you when your dad passed away? There for us?"
"But he has always been a bit ungrateful, hasn't he, darling?" Ava walked forward from behind me, and I couldn't believe she literally thought she was all the shit with a uniform as shabby as hers.
"Name the devil and she appears," I grunted.
"I thought Jannat was your devil," She smiled at me, walking up beside Lucas as she twirled a strand of her hair. "But now that you've kissed her, can't believe that she is the devil anymore? Gave up that easily? But I suppose you always did give up easily, did you not?"
"You—" I said, sucking in a sharp breath, but Lucas beat me to it, his eyes flashing as he slid in front of me.
"Ava," He squared his jaw. "I thought we talked about this last week."
"Last week?" I repeated, disbelief coursing through my veins. "And you didn't even bother to tell me?"
"I—" He started but was interrupted as Coach yelled his name. He gave me an apologetic look. "I am so sorry, we will—"
I tightened my jaw. "—talk later?" I finished for him. "Yeah." He shot me one last apologetic grin and a flashing gaze towards Ava before sprinting away to the middle of the field.
I let out a sigh. "So, you and Lucas together again or what?"
"Perhaps, sort of," She replied briskly. "You still don't like me."
"You haven't done anything likeable."
She flashed me a supposedly charming smile. "Oh, you don't like me."
"You don't like me either," I pointed out, my mind racing. Ava was back in the circle? What did it mean?
"Oh, but sweetie," Her smile widened, in that cruel, condescending way of hers. "No one likes you."
