"you-no, i.."
with shaking hands, you held onto his own, blood covered ones. though it came out as more of a grimace, he smiled up toward you, ignoring the distinct pain in his abdomen. he was still in pain. it wasn't difficult to tell.
risking a glance at your hands as you pulled them away from his own, a sob left your lips at the blood staining them. you quickly glanced away back to the boy you loved, shaking your head in almost disbelief, tears falling freely and creating marks that separated the dirt caked along your cheeks.
"this wasn't supposed to be how it ended..." you once again spoke, moving your hands to either side of his head, placing yours onto his shoulder. he laughed a little despite the situation, his own uninjured hand coming up to entwine his fingers into your tangled hair. he cracked one last joke that you didn't get the chance to hear, the blood pounding in your ears seeming to be the only sound you could hear.
