Staggering on my feet, I heaved towards my way to the boy who tried to save our lives. My breath caught in my throat when I saw how bad the state he was in. Every single time I laid my eyes on him before, I knew he was doing okay. But now, I can only hope he was still alive.
Even under the dim lighting of the place, I could see how his hand fell limp on top of his bleeding stomach. His hair was disheveled while a thin streak of blood ran down the side of his face.
"Glen! Glen, wake up!" I knelt in front of him, cupping his face while trying not to cry. I whispered his name once again. "Glen, please wake up. Please, don't be dead. You can't die yet, you idiot!"
My lips quivered as I waited for him to respond. He sat there with his back against the wall, eyes closed shut and lips slightly apart. My fingers brushed the dirt off his face, still waiting.
Glen woke up and gasped for air. His hand quickly grabbed the axe beside him, but I laid my hand on top of his, stopping him. He turned his head to face and a weak smile formed on his lips.
"Maple," he murmured, voice raspy. He tried to sit up but immediately grimaced when he moved in the slightest bit. I placed a hand on his chest to keep him from moving, while blood still leaked from the incision.
An idea formed in my mind and it was the best one that could help Glen right now. I unwrapped the towel of my left hand, carefully placing it on top of the bleeding spot. His thick, warm blood coated my fingers the moment I touched it and applied pressure.
Glen hissed. "That fucker stabbed me. I let him get away."
Before I could even tell him what Nancy and I had done to him, he moved his hand over mine. The touch of his blood-coated hand over mine sent a chill down my spine, my breathing stopped for a moment. I watched how his eyes watched our hands as he intertwined them.
"Your hand is soft," he said, grinning.
"No, it's not. It's covered of wounds," I replied, shying away.
"They're soft enough for me. I would like to hold them all day, if that's okay with you."
I bit my lip and smiled. "Of course, that's okay."
We stared into each other's eyes for a few seconds until there was a scream coming not far away from us. My blood ran cold again at the thought of Freddy being still alive and cornered Nancy.
Glen also became startled. He grabbed the axe but I stopped him again.
"You can't go! You're seriously bleeding right now, you'll die!" I pushed him back down.
He sighed. "Then take this with you." He handed me the axe, its bladed covered with droplets of blood. Another scream erupted.
"Do you remember dream skills?" He asked, holding my arm.
"What?"
"Dream skills — you turn your back and take off the energy from the monster. Just believe this isn't all a nightmare."
"I hope that works, Glen, or we're all fucked up. I'll come back to you, I promise. Just don't you dare die on me." I stood up on my feet and was about to run away when Glen caught my hand, pulling me back to him.
Our lips crashed. Glen cupped my face as I deepened the kiss, leaning towards him.
"Now we got the promise sealed," he told me after the kiss. "Chase your wildest dreams for me."
"I'll get us outta here." I kissed him again before running off, glancing back at him before I turned to another direction.
My grip on the axe's handle tightened as I heard voices coming closer. I took cautious steps whenever I make a turn, ready to swing the weapon at any moment. The better thing was that Nancy had faster reflexes.
"Nancy! Holy crap, I'm sorry," I said when I almost hit her. She dropped down to the floor so I helped her up.
"Maple! I thought you were dead! I'm so glad you're still here!" She hugged me.
"I heard your screaming. Are you okay?" I quickly asked.
"I made Krueger chase me. I was about to nail that shit but— LOOK OUT!" Nancy yelled and she pulled me towards her. Freddy had swung his claw where my head was seconds before.
"You think you was gonna get away from me?!" He roared, approaching us and swishing his hand. He looked more disfigured than before, almost like a melting, wriggly old worm. The burns left boils and scorched his skin badly. He was hideous and terrifying to look at, but I wasn't scared of him anymore.
"Suck my dick!" I threw the axe, planting it on his chest. He staggered backwards and he let out another roar of pain.
"So how do you plan on destroying him?" I asked Nancy as we stood watching Freddy shout and try to take out the axe from his chest. Green slime dripping on the blade.
"Dream skills," answered Nancy. "I know the secret now. This is just a dream and nothing's real."
"I was planning the same thing," I said. I looked at Nancy and we shared a smile, knowing exactly how to defeat this monster. We took a step towards him.
"That's for my family and friends!" I shouted. "You don't deserve all the energy you got from me! You will fucking leave us alone and you will never return to scare any other people from this day on!"
"I take back every bit of energy I ever gave you!" Nancy took a closer step, firm with all her bravery. "You're not alive, you're nothing, YOU'RE SHIT!"
"You die," Freddy muttered. Glaring at us, he pushed himself up but we didn't cowered back. We stood still, keeping the warrior spirit within ourselves.
I shut my eyes tightly, repeating my words over and over until I felt like it became my power and I was easily defeating Freddy with it. I took a deep breath in, mustering all the bravery and strength that my friends have seen in me all these years.
Next thing I heard was Freddy growling and his footsteps stopped. His voice diminishes until there was no more.
I opened my eyes and there stood nothing in front of us anymore. Nancy and I cheered, but was cut short when the ground beneath shook. The steel walkways above us swing and the screws fell to the ground. Fire inside the machines burned brighter and bigger.
"Run!"
We ran as fast as we could before any debris will fall on us. It took a couple of seconds before we finally saw Glen, still leaning back on a wall and covering his nose from the smoke that was now consuming the place.
I placed his arm on my shoulder, supporting him while Nancy led us to an exit.
"There!" She pointed at a door a level above us. We made our way up the unsteady stairs. When we reached the door, Nancy forced it open and we found ourselves in their front lawn.
There was no smoke or fire. Rain was pouring heavily and lightning flashed on the sky. We fell to the ground, exhausted and tormented. The last thing I remember before slipping to unconsciousness was holding Glen's hand tightly.
