》the very first scene i wrote and gave way to this book is maple and glen talking about her anatomy drawing of a hand with knives. the original idea was that maple is the shy artsy girl that has the same dreams with people she doesn't know. i changed it because that's too cliché and doesn't give depth to the character and characters' relationships.

》to be honest, I thought it would another short scene I wrote for another book that will never get published. So to actually have the full draft finished within 3 months surprised me because I didn't think it would reach an ending, not alone get a storyline of its own.

》the second scene that supported the book's birth is the canteen scene from chapter two, and boi did that have a lot of major revisions. for instance, the teacher wasn't there in the first draft, maple was the one who offered the string cheese, and glen was supposed to walk maple to her history class.

》"for dear maple" was originally part of chapter six but i made it separate because it made the chapter long. also the poem only had around 30 words on it first, but i edited and added more when it became a page alone.

》holy hell. the chapters where glen and maple have angst moments are the hardest to revise [see chapter 6 and 9]. i hate writing dialogues because that's exactly what gives the character a personality. i had like five rewrites of  "let me go, forget about me" scene and each one was completely different to the other; then three rewrites of glen taking maple home because i had three moods for it [peaceful reconciliation, angst but still friendly, MAKE THEM FUCKING MAD AT EACH OTHER!!!!]

》also for chapter six -- i hate that it's too long but it covers one significant problem so i can't cut it lol

》i headcanon that Glen plays baseball rather than football, therefore making the bat in his room explainable.

》maple is biromantic 💜

》i found out while editing that i didn't finish writing chapter 28 and i was so angry because i thought the book was finished after all this time. same reason why it's only 600 words long :/

》the origin of oc's name:
- while writing first scene and draft, i was on the dining table and there was a box of quaker oats in front of me. then i read "maple and brown sugar" and i just went "yup, maple sounds good."

- then for her last name, i did a research except instead of scrolling on the name site, i picked the article's author name instead then left LMAOOOOO
