🖤Chapter Thirty: Retrieval 🖤

🖤🖤🖤

"Is that everything?"

I looked around at my near-empty apartment. All that remained was the furniture that was there when I moved in. "That's everything."

"Let's get a move on, then."

I nodded and turned around, sparing one last glance at my now old apartment before I closed the door, never to step foot in it again. It was around noon, and Izaya and I spent our morning gathering the rest of my things together to fully move in with him.

I already grabbed half of my things earlier, and only needed to grab the other half once we dropped everything off. It took longer to go back and forth than it did to actually get everything together.

But now we were done. I had everything unpacked, put away, and organized in the guestroom by six in the afternoon. I was now living with my brother- the person whom I've spent most of my life with. We'd be together again after so long. But not under the circumstances I would've hoped for.

Everything going on... it was scary. I didn't know what to do.

People were after my brother, and if I didn't get him to join them, then they'd be after me too...

Before I could think, my mouth opened as we walked around Ikebukuro looking for something to eat for dinner, seeing as we worked most of the day. "They want you to join them."

He glanced down at me, my face covered by his coat hood. "What?"

I stayed silent, biting my tongue. Reluctantly, in a hushed tone, I responded, "The Ophidians."

Izaya remained silent.

"They asked me if I knew who you were... I tried to lie and tell them I didn't know you, but they didn't believe me..." My bottom lip quivered, and I looked up to my brother with wet eyes. "Izaya, you can't. They'll hurt you if you do."

Izaya placed his hand on my head, pushing his hood further over my head. "It'll be okay, Inra. I have better things to worry about."

I nodded my head silently, eyes stinging with tears, as I thought back to what that man told me.

"You get Izaya to join us, and we'll leave you alone. Fail to do so and-... Actually... you'll end up finding out..."

I was scared. I didn't know what was going to happen. I didn't want Izaya to join them. They were a gang. A bad one. I could tell that even just from the few things I've heard. I didn't want Izaya to be a part of it and end up getting hurt... Or killed.

My hand was suddenly grabbed, making me jump. I looked up, seeing Izaya with a hard look on his face. "Izaya?"

"Keep your head down. Be quiet." He spoke bluntly and seriously. I felt my breath hitch in my throat. Were they after me? Was Izaya safe? What was happening?

I felt my knees beginning to get weak, but our pace began to quicken. "Izaya, what's happening? You're scaring me." I whimpered slightly. After everything, I've become so overly paranoid. I didn't know what was safe anymore.

He didn't say anything. His grip on my hand tightened slightly as our pace gradually began to rise. What were we running from? I didn't understand. I swallowed hard, the thick lump in my throat making it hard to breathe.

I shook as I slowly turned my head, my eyes catching sight of two people; one shorter than the other, but both had on the same freakish mask. Their masks looked like they were made from a potato sack, black liquid eye sockets made it look like they were crying ink.
