I stood in the view of my body mirror, who was that? For sure it wasn't Marinette Dupain-Cheng, no it couldn't be. The women who stood before me wore an elegant creme trumpet gown that hugged the waist and went flared right as it met the thigh. It had beaded designs around the thin straps of the sleeve and around the waist, making it stand out.
Of course my family hadn't paid the debts for me to be wearing this gown tonight. Oh no they hadn't. King Gabriel went out of his way to send me a gown, insisting that it would do them both the benefit if I wore it. (PS. Also a engagement peace offering) he just had to add on the letter.
Yes, tonight was the night. I couldn't even say it aloud, it made me sick, even just the thought of it. I shivered as Alya stepped from my bathroom and made her way beside me.
"Well, you do clean up well, with my help." She smiled giddily.
"Ah, and so do you." I let out a breath, the sight of myself in the mirror made me want to rip the gown off and take this tight bun out then crash on my bed. I didn't want to go, no, not at all. This was possibly the worst day of my life and just to know that there would be a worser day than this, had really killed my mood that had been already buried underground for some time now.
I got Alya to come with me, which she kept refusing and making up excuses. But, she finally came around and excepted my invitation after saying, "You owe me Marinette, you owe me so hard!". Yeah, Alya had been pretty freaked out by the fact that I was being forced to marry and by the king of all people.
"Don't be nervous, girl. It will be alright," Alya reassured me "Because I'll be right there beside you." She added, slightly squeezing my shoulder.
"I mean how could I not Alya, do you know how many people will be there?" I silenced, waiting for her answer that never came. I continued "Exactly, do you know the man I'm getting engaged to?" I questioned and again no answer, I continued "Exactly, and neither do I!" My head fell into my hands. I quickly removed them as I remembered that I had to wear makeup! Makeup was completely foreign to my face. It's not that I thought I didn't need it, it's simply because I didn't want it. And here I was, with a face full of makeup looking like someone decorated my face as they would with a cake.
"Okay but, what if he's good looking, have you ever thought of that? There's a possibility you know."
Alya made her way over to my table stand and retrieved two hand bags. She made her way beside me once again and handed me the one that fitted my gown better."Looks are not a matter, and I'm sure that's a low chance." I took the bag from her hands.
"Why so sure?" A smirk was placed on her lips.
"I am simply sure of it." I shrugged and twisted in the mirror, getting a better look at myself. This event had to be high class or of the sort, I had to admit that this dress was astonishing.
Just as Alya parted her lips to speak, a soft knock sounded from the door. Then came a voice, "The automobile is ready, please make your way to it, wouldn't want to be late." I heard my mother warn before hearing soft foot steps retreating.
I turned to Alya, and I could feel my heartbeat pick up. If the nervousness hadn't dawned on me before, it most definitely had now.
"Just breath, breath and know that it isn't the worst day of your life, trust me, there are worser days to come." Alya comforted or at least I believe she thought it was comforting.
"This event is in honor of you, own it, this is your engagement party after all, brighten up." She smiled warmly at me. I could tell she was trying her best to get me to calm down.
