"Oliver, someone's in my house," he whispered when I picked up the phone. He sounded as if he were shaking, I heard the hammering of his heart even though I really couldn't.
Blood rushed to my ears. "What? Are you alone?"
"Yes. My parents went out to dinner and the power went off. And I—"
"Ian, where are you?"
"—thought it was just the stupid A/C again! But—"
"Where are you."
"—someone's moving a flashlight around so they must have done it on purpose and I don't know what to d—"
"Ian! Where are you right now."
"M-m-y room. Oliver..."
"Okay, so—"
"Oliver, I'm gonna die."
"No you won't, moron. Listen to me— did you hear any weird noises?"
"I can't fight anyone! And what if they have a gun? I'm just gonna cry, I'm crying, I—"
"Did you hear any weird noises, did you call the police?"
"No, just...t-the d-door, and you, and—"
"Okay, the door like...forcefully, or—"
"No. Um, I heard the sound of keys."
"Keys?"
Air flew back into my lungs.
"Yes."
"Okay, then it can't be a stranger, right?"
