Ram smiled at Sita while her eyes glittered with mischief making him gulp.
'Especially your hair. Natural brown. Just how I like it.'
Ram gasped at her pretending to be hurt as the memories played before his eyes.

'Enough Maa. We won't even need that much turmeric paste anyways. What are you planning to do, bath me in it?' Ram asked rolling his eyes, as he shifted uncomfortably in his little stool.
'Well Ram, we precisely plan to do exactly that.' Kaushalya mixed a bit more water in the paste, checking the consistency. 'And we will definitely need this much, if not more. We have to scrub your skin all over so you look good for your wedding.' Kaikeyi agreed with her, clapping her hands enthusiastically, as she couldn't wait for her turn.
Lakshman gasped, popping out of nowhere. 'Are you trying to say Bhaiya doesn't look good on his own.'
Ram rolled his eyes(Ram be rolling eyes a lot, is he turning into Lakshman?) at his younger brother. That was not even funny.
Kaushalya disagreed, giggling at the 'joke'. 'Ofcourse not. My son is the most handsome man to have ever walked on this earth.' Ram couldn't help but blush, a praise from his mother always felt special, knowing she was being honest and genuine.
'However he must look cleaner on his wedding.' Kaikeyi added, her face glowing with excitement.
'Cleaner?' Ram raised his eyebrows feeling the need to defend himself.
'You do realize that no matter how much you rub my skin with turmeric or milk or whatever, it's never gonna be white if that's what you meant. It will be as black as it is even if all the actor that play my role are fair. Not my fault humans of kaliyug created racism.'
'Kaliyug? Racism? What language are you speaking again?'
'Nothing.' he mumbled sinking in his seat.
'On c'mon Ramu baby. Don't be so cross. Tumeric has so many health benefits and it makes you look sooo cute.' Sumitra said applying a little on his nose.
Ram whined at the stupid nickname which was obviously gonna be used against him later by his brothers.
'Oh no. I was gonna be the first to apply Haldi to Ram.' Kaikeyi was quick to take Sumitra's place, pushing her away. She dipped her long fingers in the yellow paste before brushing them against her son's arms. Kaushalya was the next in line, scrubbing his cheeks with the mix.
'I guess that's enough. The ceremony ends right?' Dashrath asked the nearby pandit in charge
'Ends?' Kaikeyi said looking offended. 'We didn't even start.
'Leave it ladies. We have other work to do-'
Kaikeyi stomped her foot on the ground, clenching her fists. 'You think some "other work is more important than my son's haldi' Her voice was dangerously low which had Dashrath gulped. Quick enough to sense the tension in the air, Sumitra rushed to her sister's side. 'Relax di. It's no secret Maharaja loves Ram more than his life. There is no way he would want to miss out on this ritual unless it's something very important. Is that right, my Lord?'
Dashrath breathed a sign of relief before beaming at Sumitra, his saviour. Technically Kaikeyi was his saviour but now, with her sudden mood swings and fuming anger, no one really knows.
'Yes ofcourse. Very important work I must say. Let's not forget that we had only send one bridal attire from Ayodhya. But now we have four more brides.'
