"Megumi, could you take this to the music teacher," his homeroom teacher asked just before he was about to leave school. Mumbling under his breath as he grabbed the pile of papers from the teacher and made his way to the music room. While walking there, he watched the rest of his fellow students walk towards the exit away from school, which he so wished could be him. Maybe he could even spot her; the girl from yesterday hadn't made another appearance to him.
But Megumi was curious about her. Why didn't she tell him her name? He even asked around, but no one in his class seemed to know who he was talking about. Who was this mysterious girl?
Eventually, he made it to the music room and instead of knocking, he just barged in. He didn't care right now; all he wanted to do is go home. Glancing around to see no one around except for the instruments, Megumi wasn't about to search the whole school looking for the teacher, so he just placed it on the teacher's desk.
However, before he left the room, Megumi picked up a guitar and stared at it. He was never one to play an instrument, but he thought it would have been cool to play one. But it was like the universe was trying to tell him something because every time he tried to play one. It sounded like someone was dying, slowly and painfully. Maybe this time, it would be different; just before he glided his fingers across the string, he heard something.
Someone was playing a song. A song Megumi had never heard of, but even he could appreciate the beauty of it. He wouldn't believe someone was still at school and not leaving for the day. Who could it be? Searching around the room for the person, no one was in sight, turning to the practice rooms where one of the doors was closed.
This time Megumi knocked, not wanting to be shouted at for his rudeness. Still, there was no answer, probably because they couldn't hear through the angelic sounds they were making. Slowly, he opened the door to reveal a girl sitting at a piano with her eyes concentrating on the black and white keys in front of her. The girl's fingers danced gracefully along the piano as the song sang out to him. She was mesmerising; Megumi didn't want to move his eyes away even though he should.
The girl would probably call him creepy, but it was like some force kept his eyes there.
Soon the music stopped, and immediately the girl's eyes were on him like a rabbit in headlights. He had been caught staring, but it's not like he was trying to hide it. "What are you doing here?" she asked as her hands began to shake at the sight of Megumi. He stared at the girl with wide eyes; this was the same girl from yesterday. He couldn't believe she was hiding here this time, and if it wasn't for his homeroom teacher, he didn't think he would have found her.
The girl's hands turned into fists as she put them to her side; why was she so shaken up by him. Yesterday she confidently grabbed his hand and dragged him to school. Where was that same girl?
"I was just dropping some papers off when I heard you" Megumi spoke the honest truth while he held onto his backpack straps. Her (e/c) eyes were forced on him. "Did you make that song yourself?" He asked her, hoping to calm down the nervous state that she was in. Did he do something to frighten the girl? Megumi thought as he watched the girl. She nodded her head gently as her eyes never left Megumi as if she were, then he would suddenly attack her.
"Well, it was amazing" Megumi was an honest person and always told people what he thought. He wasn't the type to lie or beat around the bush. A sigh of relief escaped the girl as she looked up at the black-haired boy with a soft smile. The girl finally was able to relax with Megumi in the room, and that made him happy. She was just worried about what he thought of her song.
"Thank you", she exclaimed happily as she moved further along the seat. It looks like her body had become too relaxed now that he told her his honest opinion. She looked like the girl he met that day. "Come sit with me" she patted the place next to her as she smiled brightly at Megumi, whose eyes were as wide as a pan. To his surprise, he still sat next to the girl, "what's your favourite song?" She asked him as he thought about it for a minute before replying.
"Lucky I know how to play it" her smile increased as she began to play the song. Megumi sings the lyrics quietly, with her joining in occasionally. And when it was done, a smile also formed on his face, "you are so talented." He mumbled impressively.
Turning to face him, "do you know how to play?" She questioned with interest. Maybe he could be her friend, they could play music together. But she was getting ahead of herself as Megumi touched the keyboard before glancing back at the girl that he still didn't know the name of. "Nope," he simply said as the girl tilted her head before another bright smile appeared on her face.
For some reason, he liked her smile; it made him warm inside.
"I could teach you something", she insisted, but before he could refuse, she grabbed his hands just like yesterday and placed them on the keyboard. "I'll teach you the first part of the happy birthday song", she exclaimed as Megumi looked unsure about all of this but still went through with it just to see that smile on her face.
"Now we are gonna press this key which is G," she said as she focused on the keyboard while the poor boy was covered in red by the closeness. Even though they held hands before, it was different; he didn't have time to be embarrassed, but it was different now. Her body was so close to his as she helped him to play.
The girl released her hold on him, and turned to him with a smile, "now you try by yourself." He panicked as he wasn't focusing on the notes but instead on her. However, he would still try because she took the time to help him, and he wouldn't let it go to waste. Taking a deep breath before pressing the first key and then the rest.
A laugh escaped the girl from beside him before he turned around to her. "What's funny?" He tilted his head as she calmed herself down. "You looked like you were doing a number two", she chuckled as his face dipped in red paint before pinching her cheeks. She let out a whine for the slight pain, "so how was I?" Megumi asked, already knowing it was bad. It sounded nothing like hers.
"It was a great start", she encouraged as he narrowed his eyes at the girl. Was she just trying to be nice to him? "No, I'm serious; everyone has to start somewhere. You won't automatically be the best musician in Japan" she explained her reasoning for her response, and he accepted it. She was a nice person.
"It's getting late; we should probably head home", she stated while looking at the clock on her phone. Megumi nodded his head as he stood up and helped the girl pack everything away. He couldn't believe himself. He stayed this late at school with a girl.
"I'm ready" she put her bag on as Megumi opened the door for both of them. It turned out they lived in the same direction; both of them didn't talk, but it was a comfortable silence, unlike what Megumi expected. He didn't know why it wasn't awkward but was thankful for it.
"Well, this is my house" she pointed to the apartment building as he nodded his head. "Bye," they both said their goodbye as she waved. Megumi walked down the street before going inside and walking up the stairs with the biggest smile ever.
However, Megumi let out a groan that he forgot to ask her what her name was. Tomorrow he will find it for sure.
The girl entered her house to see her parents weren't home yet. Immediately she rushed to her room before jumping onto her bed with a squeal. "Tomorrow is gonna be great."
