"Are you sure you want to go to school?" (Y/N) 's mother asked her daughter with worry swimming in her eyes. She can tell something is wrong with (Y/N), but how can she do anything if she doesn't speak to her. (Y/N) slipped on her shoes and grabbed her school bag, "yes, mum." She replied, but all she really wanted to do was vomit. Her mind consumed her with negative thoughts.

Who did you think you were? Playing the piano while being deaf.

I wanted to.. never mind. She paused her thoughts, not bothering to fight the voices today. They had kept her up all night and she didn't even have the energy to eat breakfast.

"Here", her mother handed her some cash while (Y/N) stared at her confused. "In case you get hungry on the way to school", a sad smile appeared on her wrinkled face while her daughter gently took the money. "I'm gonna go now", she awkwardly spoke as she reached for the door handle.

"What about Megumi?" Her mother asked as (Y/N) matched her mother's expression with the same sad smile. "I'll see him at school" (Y/N) opened the door but turned around to face the older woman. "I love you, mum" she didn't give her mother enough time to react to the statement before the door was slammed in her face.

Her mother rushed to the window, patiently waiting to see her baby girl exit the apartment building. "What happened?" she mumbled to herself as memories of watching (Y/N) grow into the woman she is today. In her heart, she knows she wasn't the best mother, and so desperately, she wished to go back in time. But she can't; she has to change things now.

Finally, (Y/N) walked out and began making her way to school. I'm gonna change the world. Her childlike voice entered her mind. "Yes, you are", she replied as the little girl sat at the dining table after winning her first contest. "So what I can't hear most of the time, I love piano. I'm gonna be a deaf pianist." Her ten-year-old daughter jumped about excitedly. "I believe in you, and I'll be supporting you every step of the way." The two of them soon celebrated her first win. Her father never really thought she could do it. But she did it; she proved him wrong.

"Why are you giving up?" Her mother whispered to herself as her daughter disappeared from her sight. "Morning", her husband stepped into the main room and began preparing a coffee. "We need to talk" the woman stared at the man she married. "I want a divorce."

(Y/N) casually walked down the street, acting like everything was fine when in reality, it was not. Maybe it would be best if she just disappeared. I mean, sure, her mum would miss her, but who else? Megumi was probably still mad at her. Her thoughts feed her, causing the black hole in her to grow.

Eventually, she made it into school. The first time she had ever been this early, the hallways looked empty with only a few early birds who wanted to study. Climbing each step one by one was a struggle, especially without any food from last night and this morning. However, she didn't stop at the floor with her classroom; instead, she carried on up until she made it to the roof.

Dropping her bag by the door as she pushed open the door, letting the cold breeze hit her. Being up here made her feel free in a weird sense. Stepping right to the edge of the rooftop, "they should really put a fence here. Someone could fall," she muttered to herself as she glanced down at the students who entered the school. No one noticed her standing above them.

"I don't want to live in a silent world", the words she hid from everyone; she hated sharing her emotions. It made her feel like she was pushing her problems to someone else instead of dealing with it herself. "I don't want to burden anyone" her insecurity from seeing her parents struggle; they didn't even know they made her like this.

"Why was I born?" (Y/N) asked herself as the wind blew a bit too strong for her that her body began to lose balance and lean together in the open sky. However, she was pulled back by someone. They tightly grabbed onto her wrist and smacked her against their body. Warmth spread into her cold body.

"What the fuck were you doing?!" she heard them shouted and immediately recognised it. Megumi had saved her like he always does. Her hero.

Turning her around while gripping onto her shoulders for dear life, "I won't let you go." Megumi shouted as she spotted his eyes grow glassy but soon, she was once again pressed against his chest. Her face is held against his heart, where she feels the fast pace of his heartbeat. He was scared she was going to die.

Again he pulled her back but still held her in place, "what were you thinking?" Megumi questioned her, calmer now, but she could still see a storm of rage in his eyes. "What's the point in living in a world where I can barely hear my own mother's voice?" (Y/N) voice cracked as she spoke, trying to hold back the tears.

I can barely hear the boy I love the most. The voice whispered in her head again. Let go of this world, do it.

"Please let me go", she pleaded with him, but he shook his head as his tears flew away. "No, I won't. Don't you care about your mum." He took a deep breath, "what about me?"

"My mum can have another child; she is still young", looking away from the boy in front of her. "And there are better people out there. I lied to you." Megumi grabbed her chin gently as he wiped the tear that fell, "but she won't have you, her amazing daughter. And I can't find anyone else because I've already fallen for you." His hands moved to my cheeks, holding them.

"I don't want anyone else."

A soft smile made its way to (Y/N)'s face, "well, I lied again; I don't like you." She slowly removed his hands from her face and held them, "I love you." Before he could say anything, she spoke once more. "It's best if she has another child, one who can hear her beautiful voice."

Letting go of his hands, (Y/N) strolled to the edge once more and looked out. "I have no more dreams" her voice was quiet, but he heard her; he always did. Not letting her do anything reckless, he wrapped his arms around her waist, dragging her away from the edge.

"Yes, you do! You love music more than anything. Who cares if you can't hear the notes properly? Everyone else can, and it's beautiful. Don't waste your talent." Megumi desperately tried to explain how wonderful she was, but (Y/N) was too far in the darkest.

"I thought you wanted to inspire other deaf kids to not let anything stop them" he threw the most personal thing she had ever told him. "Maybe we can't do anything. I was delusional" a laugh escaped her.

"No, you weren't. The world was just too cruel to you." He squeezed her body as she allowed the tears to finally fall.

"I love you, (Y/N)", Megumi whispered into her ear before the rooftop door slammed opened and out came teachers. "Get away from the edge!" they shouted, scared they were gonna jump. Megumi took (Y/N) back inside, where he explained the situation, and immediately they contacted her mother.

They sat in silence for 20 minutes, waiting for her to arrive, and once she did, she pulled her into a comforting hug. "I knew something was wrong; I'm so sorry", her mother muttered into her daughter's ear. Gently, she walked her daughter into the taxi before turning back to Megumi and giving him a hug. He stood there tense but knew she was just grateful.

"Thank you for saving my daughter's life."
