Manya's POV:
After almost 3 weeks I felt content. My hands were itching from not performing surgery but today when I said "it's success" to the patient's family, the smile on their faces was enough to make me feel proud of myself.
But something changed, not only the patient's family but also my husband was waiting for me outside OT.
With these thoughts in my head, I went to shower. I have to attend a conference today the reason which is why I am visiting NYC in the first place.Suddenly my right eye started blinking, Parents and most of my relatives say that when right eye blinks it's bad omen. I didn't think much about and continued taking shower.
When I came back I saw 23 missed calls from Siddanth.
I was mentally thinking maybe some post-operative difficulties have occurred.
I called him back as soon as possible.
"Hello!,"" Hello, Manya comes to the hospital right now. It's emergency and sorry." Siddanth said on the other end.
Without wasting a single minute I booked a cab and went to the hospital.
" Sorry I did a mistake, forgive me but now your medical license is at stake." He said and shocked would be an understatement of my situation.
" What?" Is the least I could answer back.
" You don't have a permit to perform surgery or any medical operation in the USA. Now the hospital board wants to question you and me. " He said.
Then the realization hit me. Since the patient's condition was very critical. I didn't think before performing surgery nor when Siddhanth dragged me towards OT.
I went to the conference hall in the hospital where most of the senior doctors were present and discussing something. I was very nervous. I prayed not to end up in jail.
I was asked to sit down.
" So Dr. Manya, you don't have a permit to perform surgery in the USA how will you define your act?" A person sitting on the head chair asked. I guessed him to be an Indian through his accent and appearance.
" I am sorry sir. I know I have made a blunder. But at that moment surgery was very much necessary for the patient so I did what was right as a doctor. I might not have permitted to perform surgery in the USA but I have a medical license in the UK and also INDIA and I am WHO certified doctor."
I justified my actions. Acting coward now won't work out. I have to be brave. I thought to myself." Still, you can lose your medical license and also be sentenced to jail if the operation wasn't a success," a lady in her mid-50's said.
" I know ma'am and I am ready to bare the consequences. As the surgery is successful and the patient is out of danger I know my medical license won't be cancelled nor I will be sentenced to jail. But I am ready to pay the fine." I replied with some courage.
" We have studied all the information about you. Yes, indeed you are one of the finest surgeons. And since the patient is also out of danger. The medical association of the USA will be lenient on you. You have to pay a fine of $ 50,000. You have 2 days for thus. If not paid you won't be allowed to leave the USA" another man who was sitting alongside said with one go.
And I gasped at the amount which I am supposed to pay.
$50,000 approximately 37,25,000 Indian Rupees. From where will I bring that much amount? I panicked." You have to pay medical expenses of patient. You know how much-complicated surgery it was, so his entire hospital bill will cost $5,000". Another man gave me the explanations.
I was mentally crying about my situation.
Suddenly someone barged through the door and all were looking at him with confusion.
When I turned back I noticed furious Samar with another white man.
