George POV

I was woken up by the stripes of sunlight shining through the blinds. Yawning, I rolled to the side and checked the time. 8 AM.

Today was the day I was going to the USA to meet the family I was gonna stay with for the next year. I'd found a family of three with a guy the same age as me (17) named Clay and his two parents. A feeling of excitement spread throughout my body despite the fact that I was extremely shy, but I'd wanted a change from my normal day to day life in England for quite a while by now.

My host family had informed me to meet them at the airport in Florida around 6 PM so they could pick me up. The flight I was on would take off at precisely 10 AM. Fortunately for me I'd already packed my suitcase and backpack, the only thing I'd left to do was find an outfit to wear for the day.

I pulled out a basic black t - shirt and paired it with some comfortable grey sweatpants that I usually wore.

I took a long look at the square formed mirror on my door, ruffling my messy brown hair making sure I looked decent before grabbing my bags and closing the front door, glancing back at the small brick apartment. From the corner of my eyes I noticed both my parents waving at me from the window of our apartment with slight tears in their eyes. I waved back, realizing I wasn't gonna see them for a year. Tears started to form in my eyes and made my sight kinda blurry. Ignoring my watery eyes I turned the other way around and gave my bags to the taxi driver who placed them in the back of his car. He then proceeded to open the door for me, while I buckled up my seatbelt he drove to the airport.

I stepped out of the car and grabbed both of my bags going into the airport to catch my flight that was boarding in 10 minutes. My flight had arrived and I quickly found my reserved window seat and sat down.

The flight hadn't taken off yet so I pulled out my phone to text my only friend who also happened to be my neighbor in England.

Quackity 😎

I turned off my phone feeling the impaitionment rise each second. At this point I was overwhelmed by all the mixed feelings of being both anxious and excited and honestly just couldn't wait to meet my host family.

As soon as the plane landed I eagerly grabbed my bags and searched the airport for a woman and a man with matching shirts, cause that was what they had told me to look for. In a crowd of people I noticed a couple standing out with matching blue and green striped shirts. I was unsure of what to do so I just pretended not to notice until they eventually approached me. The voice of an elderly woman around 50 years suddenly spoke to me.

"Hi! You must be George, the exchange student, am I right?"

A woman with a bright smile and a flowered patterned dress asked, not breaking eye contact. By her right side a man around the same age, maybe a couple years older, which I assumed was her husband, also stood waiting for an answer.
