Amethyst's POV
I was sat in my office waiting for my next patient when I got a sudden call from Min-young, "Amethyst would you mind coming for lunch with us?" he asked, "of course not."
Just then, my patient came in, and I hung up. "Hello there, darling, how are you?" I asked the little girl, she said she had come down with a cold, I then asked her for any symptoms. "Do you feel dizzy?" "No" she replied "Is your throat sore," she replied "yes," I asked her more questions and she answered them.
I did some checkups on her, her heartbeat, her ears, her throat, and her eyes. We also had a little side chat like how she wanted to become a doctor just like me. I was pleased that she liked talking to me because normally the kids would be too stunned to talk to me because of my skin colour.
I then spoke a little with her mum about her conditions and told her it wasn't serious, kids come down with colds all the time and I prescribed some medicine and sent them off to the pharmacy.
It was finally time for my lunch break, I had been working since 6:00 am. As soon as I got to work this morning, I went for a patient's care conference and after that, I asked for some updates on my patience. As a fairly new doctor, I don't have as many responsibilities as our seniors, but I still have to ask them for advice sometimes as they have more experience in the field than I do.
I walked out of my office I recalled my days of being a resident doctor, having to follow my senior doctors everywhere and take notes on everything, I will admit it was stressful, but I made it.
I met up with some friends that I made in the hospital, and we had lunch. We talked about our work, patients, and our lives, all while getting our work done. While they were working and talking, I zoned out for a hot minute.
Being a woman of colour in a foreign country was stressful enough, and then I also live alone. At first, when I got the job here I was scared, one because I didn't know how to speak Korean, and I was scared that I would experience racism. But all those worries turned to determination as soon as I got here because I had to work hard to make a living.
"Amethyst, are you ok?" Min asked, "yes, I am." He stared at me for a while before asking, "do you want to go clubbing tonight?" "No, we have work tomorrow and I don't want to be tired," I told him." Pleassseee we are working from home tomorrow anyway," he reminded, "and besides the others are in," he persuaded. I told him I will think about it. And by the time we were done talking, our lunch break was over.
You see Min is also a pediatrician, he and I met when I was still studying to be a Pediatric back in Canada. His family is filthy rich, so they sent him abroad to go to med school, and that was the best thing they could ever do for me. When I first arrived in Korea, he came to the airport to pick me up, and he invited me to stay at his house until I found mine. To be honest, he has been my day 1, and he is an amazing human.
Soon enough it was time for me to go home because my shift was over. So I met up with the pediatrician who was going to be staying for the night shift, I told him about the patients and handed him a tablet stating the patient's problems, I then proceeded to sign out.
"Oi chingu! (friend)" Min-young called, "so have you thought about it?" he asked while starting the car engine. "I really want to come but what if there is an emergency, and they call me back, I can't go there drunk," I said looking at the busy roads of Seoul. "Then don't drink, just go have fun and party, problem solved," he said. He really wanted to go, didn't he?
"Ok, I will come," I finally gave in, he screamed yes, and I laughed. Min dropped me off at my house and was on his way, he seemed pretty excited that I agreed to come. I sighed and turned on the light in my apartment living room. It wasn't too fancy, but it was definitely beautiful the interior was all black, but it still had that homey tinge to it.
I walked straight to my room to go take a hot relaxing shower and I took a nap after. I woke up at around 6:00 pm, which was a 3-hour nap. Not only that, but I realized that I got a message from Kang byeol I read, and she was asking if I was still coming, and I replied with a "yes."
Byeol was another friend of mine that I met at a coffee shop one day, she is a bubbly and optimistic young lady and just like Min, she's always supportive of me. She works as an editor, and sometimes she lets me read some writer's works, and they are amazing.
I started getting ready at 8:00 pm. When I was ready, I drove to Byeol's house to pick her up, then we went to the club where Min told us to meet him. When we got there we realized some of Min's friends also came, and Byeol was complaining about how expensive the club was while Min reassured us that he booked everything, and he will be paying for our drinks.
"She wasn't wrong about it being expensive," I gasped when I walked inside, "don't worry, I paid for it," he said. I knew he was rich but wasn't it too much, I went straight to sit down because I wasn't going to drink, and I didn't want to dance. This club was famous not only because celebrities came here, but also chaebols. I watched them from where I sat as they all danced and drank themselves to a stupor.
A random old man came to sit beside me, he then proceeded to touch my lap. I immediately slapped his hands away, "don't you foreign women normally like this kind of things," he slurred, I stood up and walked away from him, he tried following, but he lost me in the crowd.
That disgusting old man. I went to sit at the bar and ended up ordering a shot of whisky and then my bladder decided that it was time to go, so I stood up and walked to the bathroom. On my way there I saw a young man who looked completed wasted, as I was about to take another step he fainted......
