Their cab driver was an extremely talkative man. Clarke was beginning to wonder if he ever paused to take a breath. What made it worse was that Raven was encouraging him with her own annoying antics.
"You should see the sunset here. Beautiful! Absolutely beautiful. You know my wife and I moved here ten years ago and never looked back! I got my own peg leg so I know how it feels" He chuckled, glancing into the rear view mirror for a moment, the religious beads rattling as the car shifted.
"Man I can't wait to see it!" Raven exclaimed with a grin "Does it ever snow here?"
It was dark outside. The cab moving briskly through the many trees that blocked and revealed the night time sky and its many stars. Lexa's eyes followed the shadows outside, green flashing as they darted back and forth to meet the next shadow. They were wide with curiosity, life brewing in their moisture as she blinked and turned away from the window.
"Are you alright?" Clarke asked quietly, watching as Lexa seemed to snap out of her state
"I'm more than alright, Clarke. Thank you"
"Good." She smiled, squeezing her knee "When we get there I'll sort out all of your meds for tomorrow and get you off to bed. You look exhausted."
"I'll try not to take offence to that, Clarke" Lexa raised a brow at the blonde, who laughed lightly at her words "But I know that I am in fact exhausted"
Clarke felt the car turn and glanced out the window. There was a soft orange glow as they pulled into the small parking lot "By the looks of it, we can get you to bed pretty soon"
"Oh but now I'm all excited" Lexa flashed a smile.
"Of course you are" Clarke shook her head as she unbuckled her belt "Come on then, lets roll you out of here"
Raven snorted "Autobots, move out!"
"The fact that you quoted transformers is making it even more difficult to picture marrying you" Luna grumbled, opening her door.
"I'm just too amazing. Nobody could imagine marrying me." her fiancé smirked
"I can." Clarke mumbled "I'm already starting to choke on bile at the thought alone"
"Please. You'd have married me in high school if I asked you to."
"I would had switched to another school if you asked me to" Clarke countered, slipping out of her seat and watching the cab driver hop out, staring at his remote as the ramp slowly lowered to the ground at an agonising pace. She winced as the system squeaked and croaked until it finally collapsed into the dirt with a pathetic sigh.
"Fantastic! Let's go Woods!" Lincoln grinned "First vacation in a while, huh?"
"You could say that" Lexa grumbled as her wheelchair touched down on solid ground.
"When was the last one?" he grabbed the suitcases from inside, lifting them and dropping them to his sides with ease. Clarke found herself thankful someone stronger than her was on the trip too. It'd have saved her the hassle of struggling and humiliating herself in front of Lexa more than she deemed necessary.
"Probably when we went to the Caribbean. You know, when you oiled the floor and I almost snapped my neck?"
"Well, I'll be damned. I remember that holiday well. Back when you were taller than Anya, right?" Lincoln teased
"You mean, back when my legs worked" Lexa added with a roll of her eyes.
"Something like that" He chuckled, passing the extended handle of a cream coloured suitcase to Octavia with a warm smile. From Clarke's observations, he was a gentle giant, with no other intentions than kindness.
"Okay but can we go now? The very idea of a margarita is making my brain melt and my pits all sweaty"
"Alcoholism at it's finest, ladies and gentlemen. Take this moment to learn a valuable lesson" Raven commented, her voice imitating a posh teacher of such. She paused as the rest of the group stopped to stare at her, wondering how she could be so comfortable to say things like that "What? We're all meant to be friends here right?"
"You're lucky I'm too tired to sock your ass, Reyes." Octavia murmured, nudging with her elbow as she passed.
Luna began muttering with, or rather at, Raven, who waved her off with the back of her hand and a mischievous smile as they walked away from the cab, suitcases trailing behind them.
"Well, here we are" Clarke smiled "I'm surprised we got you this far"
"I still have time to bail on you, Clarke" Lexa reminded her.
"Yeah, you're right" She sighed, grabbing the two cases "Now let's get to bed. When we wake up we can go explore and act like kids in Disney world."
"Disney world or Disney land?" She raised a brow
"Is there even a difference?" Clarke rolled her eyes, as they slowly made their way towards the small selection of huts. Crickets buzzed and chirped around them, signalling their late arrival. It was almost like a welcoming applause and a congratulations for getting the brooding young woman anywhere past her front door.
"Yes, Clarke there's so much of a difference. How could you even assume there isn't?"
"I'm sorry I offended you so much..." Clarke rolled her eyes "I'm glad you can't just hop out of that chair and beat my ass. Or is that the final finale of tonight?"
"I wish" Lexa grumbled, the soft whirring of her chair steadily carrying her forward interrupting the crickets.
They fell into the silence of conversation in that exact way as they made their way along the winding path. Clarke was okay with that though. It gave her thoughts enough time to catch up to her as the brunette focused on steering herself beside her. She paused outside the door, hand hovering above the key pad. Lexa frowned at her as she turned around, placing a hand on her hip to look at her.
"What... why are you looking at me like that?" Lexa asked in confusion
"I don't" She shook her head
"You don't... what Clarke?"
"Wish that you could just jump up out of that chair" She shook her head
"Excuse me?"
"When I met you, you were in that chair Lexa. And yeah, for your sake, I'd love it if you could stand. I know it would make you happier. But this-" She motioned to Lexa "To me, this is you. If this is how you are then so be it. I'd happily take this over nothing at all."
"Well, I'd take nothing" Lexa whispered, eyes flicking away into the darkness.
