Impatiently waiting in the hallway by a closed door, Wendy rocks back and forth on her heels. Every few seconds she would glance at the door as if she would miss it if she didn't. When the door finally opened it was a few seconds after the lunch bell rang. Standing on her tiptoes the small girl tried to look over the heads of the other students, who gave her confused stares as they walked past. A few even stopped out of the way to watch.
Towards the back of the crowd, a puff of lilac hair came into view, jumping a little Wendy waved her hand as she called: "Shinso! Shinso! Over here!"
All the heads seemed to turn in unison to stare at Shinso who seemed to shrink and fume under their gaze. Hunching his shoulders forward as he picked up his pace, Shinso quickly closed the distance.
"Wendy!? What are you doing here!? It's not Wednesday," He hissed for only Wendy to hear, trying to ignore his classmates.
After their first lunch together Wendy made a point to come at least once a week, which seemed to fall onto Wednesday. Her excitement burned away the embarrassment she would have normally felt when getting stared at by a crowd.
"I know but I couldn't wait, I have some exciting news to share with you!" Wendy said beaming, the bright smile seemed to quail Shinsos nerves, "I also wanted to talk with you about a few things with just you and also with my classmates. Maybe even Papa depending on what you think."
Whispers started to circulate them, making Shinso keenly aware of the others again.
"Fine, but not here," Rushed by the need to get away Shinso grabbed Wendy's wrist gently as he walked past, pulling her along.
Happy he was willing to listen Wendy chirped a thank you as she followed, confused by the students they had to navigate through. A few had the decency to move out of the way, acting as if they weren't watching, the rest stood still, only moving to watch them till they turned out of sight.
"What were you doing!?" Shinso hissed, keeping his voice down as they passed other students.
All of whom either took a second look at them or stared blatantly.
"I just wanted to tell you something, It couldn't wait for Wednesday. Am I not supposed to come to your classroom?" Wendy asked, she looked up at Shinso guiltily, reminding him of a sad kitten.
"No, I never told you, you couldn't." Shinso sighed dragging his hand over his face, "But now my annoying classmates are going to bother me for weeks. I should have told you how to contact me sooner."
"Oh, I'm sorry for causing you trouble. I should have waited, I won't do it again. I can even explain it to your classmates for you."
Shinso quickly shook his head, eyes wide. His classmates weren't very subtle with their questions.
With his free hand, Shinso fished his phone out from his pocket, "You don't have to, it's partly my fault anyway. I should have given you my number sooner."
Phone outstretched Wendy stared at it in amazement, hesitantly looking at Shinso. When he nodded she smiled brightly up at the taller boy before grabbing his phone. Gently she tugged her hand out of his grasp so she could type in her number. Faint dust of color covered Shinso's face when he realized he was still holding her hand, mumbling an apology as he let go.
"And... done! Here you go!" Wendy offered back his phone, both hands holding onto the top.
"Thanks." He stiffly shoved it back into his pocket after missing a few times, "So...umm...what was it that you wanted to talk to me about?"
"You remember how I told you about the quirk research project Recovery Girl gave me? Well, I was wondering if you would be willing to be a part of it?"
Wendy started walking again, so Shinso followed but he stopped dead in his tracks at Wendy's question.
