Dylan's POV
"Your baby's doing fine. Just keep your diet and pre-natal care and you'll both be okay. Also, I suggest around 10 to 15 min walk from time to time to help with the labor." Dr. Smith stated. "I'll leave you to change while I print your picture"
"I'm so excited." Ashley cooed. "Our little angel's coming soon. It's best to wait for full 40 weeks but we can probably meet our baby as early as next week."
"I'm excited too but at the same time I'm afraid. What if I'm not a good mother? What if something goes wrong."
"Nothing's going to be wrong love, you'll do well and I'll be with you every step of the way." She assured me.
"I love you."
"I love you more. You and our little one." She kissed my belly. "And of course, Mikey."
"We're having a baby..." I whispered, still not believing that in five weeks, I will be delivering a life in this world.
"Yes, we are." Ashley repeated. Little pooling in her eyes.
"I'm carrying it." Never in my life I've thought about carrying one. Back then the idea of being pregnant gross me out but I'm wrong. It's the most wonderful feeling in this world.
After a few more minutes of silence, Dr. Smith returned and gave us a brown enveloped that contained the sonogram.
"Thanks doc!"
"Thanks M.G."
Ashley's POV
We were headed to the elevator when we both saw familiar faces. "Hey Nick! Lexi!" Dylan greeted. "Any one of you got hurt?"
"Hi Dy! Wow! You're huge!" Nick said. "We're okay. Just need to go and interview Janie Doe."
"Wait! She woke up? Why wasn't I informed?" I frowned. Janie Doe had been under my care since she was admitted and even if it was not good practice, I'm kind of invested in her.
"We just got informed no longer than ten minutes ago. It's just out luck that we're in the vicinity. Have you checked your phone?" Lexi replied as I pulled my phone.
"Yeah... Dr. Tray texted me. I silenced my phone when we were at the room." I blushed at my own embarrassment.
"Come on hun, let's go visit the child. And don't worry about me. I'll be okay. Besides Dr. Smith said that walking's good." I then guided my wife and lead the way.
When Janie Doe was first brought in, her body shut down due to extensive trauma. She got bruises and cuts both healed and new. Cigarette burns covered her arms, legs and even genitals. Aside from that, she suffered broken ribs, puncture lungs and there were visible signs of prolonged sexual abuse. She was lucky to be alive but she'll be needing a long process to recover. Physically, her wounds would heal but mentally, one could only hope.
We managed to 'fix' her up and placed her in medically induced coma so that her body could heal. After a few weeks in ICU, she was transferred to recovery ward. The swelling in her brain had gone and brain scan looked good. Her lungs were healed but we kept her intubated. However, even if we took her out from coma, she remained asleep.
"Detective Nick Porter and Lexi Gibson." They showed their badges to the uniformed officers while I took my I.D. from my bag even thought it wasn't necessary since they already knew me.
"Dr. Tray. How is she?" I asked while my wife remained behind outside.
"She's fine."
"Can we talk to her?" Nick asked.
