02. HEARTBEAT

——

as mitsuya's motor engine can no longer be heard, you turned on your heels and started walking through the hallway. you tried to remember all the reminders mitsuya had given you before he left you alone in your work.

you remembered he said to eat lunch at lunchtime, not on break time, not after. he also said to wash your hands and sanitize them before and after eating. he said to finish all your food, and do not pick on vegetables. he also said to not overwork yourself since it's your first day... also not to be so strict on the students.

to top it all, he ended all the reminders with a kiss on the forehead.

smiling, you knocked on the door which you suppose was the "pottery room" base on the instruction sent to you through the mail.

your nerves were starting to get into your head, palms starting to sweat, and fingertips starting to get shaky. it even worsens when the door opened.

"oh- y/n?!" a familiar voice made your shaking cease, lifting your head to see who was the person right in front of you. "i was informed that i'll have a substitute teacher but i didn't know it'll be you."

"hina!" you shriek back at her, forgetting about how nervous you were before you saw her. "long time no see, i haven't seen you around with takemichi!"

"i know right, teaching kept me so busy. don't worry, i'll try to give myself some more time."

"but should i mention how beautiful you've become? i'm honestly jealous."

"oh how silly, y/n, you're the one who's so beautiful. you even got mitsuya so whipped over you."

it has been over five minutes when you notice how inappropriate the place is for a little catching up and chit-chat, but the students inside don't mind. they'd like it if you continued chatting.

"oh dear me, look at the time. come in, i'll introduce you to the class." hina held you on your elbow and dragged you inside in front of all the students- estimated to be about 16.

"good morning, ma'am- ma'ams." automatically, as if they're automated to stand up and bow, they greeted in unison.

"this is y/n, she'll be your pottery teacher for a while. be good to her, alright?" again, the students agreed.

"i'll leave you here then, good luck y/n. let's talk more some other time." she waved her hands before closing the door behind her, leaving you in the room, slightly nervous.

unexpectedly, the students weren't as bad as you thought they'll be, they weren't even noisy nor did they stir any problem. students would raise their hands if they have a question, and so the class ended well.

the only thing you didn't like is some of the boys openly flirting with you- with you who's a lot older than them, what's more, their teacher. but as much as you wanted to tell them off, they won't back off that easily.

just before you go out of the room to eat lunch on time just like how mitsuya reminded you to do so, three of the boys started walking towards your table. walking sloppily with a smug on their faces as if it made them a little cooler, in your eyes, they're still a little boy.

"hey, miss y/n."

turning to them, you let out a half-baked smile, gripping on the edge of the table to control the boiling annoyance.

just how could they flirt when you have that shiny red string on your finger- oh, they couldn't see that, only you and mitsuya could.

"do you need something?"
