"Did you know anyone from your group before all of this?" Pete asked, he was the doctor of Alexandria. Marie had finally been assigned to a job, she was a nurse again.
"No" Marie simply said as she was putting medical supplies away.
"What about Daryl? you guys seem close" He looked up at her. She had stopped what she was doing.
"We were neighbors" Marie mumbled as she remembered. They had actually met at school when they were kids. They were the only ones with no friends.
•*Flashback*•
The first grade is usually the grade were kids talk the most. It's where some meet their best friend for life. They have sleep overs at each others houses and stuff like that. Marie and Daryl were the only ones that didn't do that stuff.
Daryl always had to be home for his daily beat because Merle wasn't there. He couldn't leave his house as much as he would like to. He had to deal with the asshole of his father. His mother would be at work trying to gain some money for them.
Marie was a different story. Her father didn't beat her, but her parents wouldn't pay much attention to her. There were days where she would stay up all night because they argued. Their screams would echo through the house. She would cry herself to sleep knowing her family was slowly falling apart. Her older sister was never home. She was always out with her friends getting drunk or high, she never knew anymore.
At school they were always pushed around. Always made fun of because they were 'poor'. Or because of their families. They would get home from school with a new cut or bruise. It was something they always had to deal with alone.
When they had recess they both would climb the same tree, not know the other was there. Daryl would climb up the highest as Marie stayed a bit lower. The day they meet was a rainy day, they had to have recess inside.
Marie had snuck into one of the empty classrooms without anyone noticing. She didn't know there was someone already there until she was there. She sat by the window and watched the rain fall. It was beautiful for her.
"What are you doing here?" The voice of a young boy made her look away from the window.
She didn't know what to say to him. Instead of answering him she ask him a question "what are you doing in here?"
"I asked you first" The boy snapped, causing Marie to close her eyes and flinch. The voices of her parents screaming at each other ringing through her head.
Daryl felt his heart soften when he saw her flinched. It was like she could somewhat relate to him. Like she knew what he felt.
"I come here to get away" he mumbled as he sat down next to her. She opened her eyes and looked at him. He had blonde hair with beautiful blue eyes. He had a tiny mole growing by him lip. She had never seen him before "I'm Daryl.. Dixon"
She noticed how he hesitated to say his last name. It was like he was ashamed of it "I'm Marie Anderson"
He had never seen her around either. She had light brown hair and Pretty green eyes. She was beautiful.
"You never told me why your here" He looked at her in the eyes. He wanted to know why this girl is here.
"To get away too" She whispered. She felt like he understood. Still she didn't want to trust him much. She didn't know how. If only she knew he didn't either.
*•Flashback Over•*
That was the day they became friends. They were inseparable, nothing tore them apart. They helped each other against the bullies. They were each others guardian angels. They were there for each other when they need it the most.
She was there to heal his wounds when his father would whip him. She always had her arms wide open to comfort him.
He always there for her when her parents would fight. He would take her hunting to distract her from that. He always had a spot for her in his bed for when she need him. He would leave the window unlock for her.
They had slowly fallen in love with each other, but didn't say or did anything about it. They didn't want to ruin their friendship. They couldn't lose each other if something went wrong. They decided to stay friends until their last breathes.
