As Marie leaned over the railing, she heard someone coming up to the house. She turned her head to see Daryl walking up the porch.

"Well, where have you been so late?" She chuckled at him as she looked him over. He was wearing a nice black button up underneath his vest. His jeans didn't have holes like usual, he looked good.

"Out" He shrug at her and sat down on the stairs of the porch. The smile she once had vanished from her face.

"You alright?" She asked him. She had noticed how distant he had become since Beth..

She sighed when she didn't get answer from him. She had also notice how he was pushing her away.

"You know," she looked down at her hands "you can talk to me when you need to, right?"

"You don't have time anymore" He shrug at her. To him, she was always working. Always somewhere else when he needed her the most.

"Your my best friend, I always have time for you. You always come first" She looked at him sadly. She always hated it when he made himself sound unimportant.

He only grunted at her, he didn't want to talk to her.

"You think I haven't notice that you're pushing me away" She laughed bitterly. Something in her had suddenly snapped.

"What are you on about?" He raised an eyebrow at her. He didn't want to talk to her about it.

"You haven't been the same since.. Beth" She hesitated on saying her name. She still felt the pain that was there. It was like they had just lost her yesterday.

"She has nothing to do with this" he snapped, glaring at her. She looked at him blankly, she didn't flinch anymore when someone raised their voice.

"With what?" She snapped back at him "with you ignoring me? pushing me away?" she glared at him harshly "I get it, you lost someone you cared about, we all did"

"You don't get it" He stood up and glared back at her "you don't have any idea what it feels like!"

"I don't?" she laughed humorlessly "because it seems like I lost you"

They both stay stayed in silence as he took in her words. Beep inside all the numbness, he felt guilt for the way he has treated her.

"What happen to you?" She looked him with tears in her eyes. It seemed like she didn't know him anymore. It was like they were strangers.

"Nothing" he rolled his eyes and turned around so his back was facing her "it ain't none of your damn business"

Marie scoffed at him and walked down the stairs of the porch. She wanted to get away from him.

"Where are you going?" He shouted after her as she walked away from the house.

"It ain't none of your damn business" She snapped at him without turning around to look at him. She had only drank two beers, but she needed more.

--

She was in her sixth beer of the night. All she wanted was to drink, maybe forget everything for a while. She had gone back to the party for more beer and a bottle of whiskey.

"Don't you think it's a little too late to be drinking?" A voice chuckled from behind her. Marie turned around to see the man who opened the door for her back at the party.

Marie only shrugged and turned to look up at the dark sky. She didn't think anyone would find her, she was in a the watch tower no one used.

"What are doing up here?" The man asked her. He slowly walked towards her and took a seat by her side.
