- (10/3/21) I added to this part of the story if you happen to have read this part already. Thanks.

The gavel slammed for the final time, "Case adjourned". That was it for the Cage family. The divorce was final and Cassie was miserable. She was to live with her mother, Sonya Blade. Her father, Johnny Cage, having an unstable life style, being a big movie star, always on the road away from home and sometimes, regrettably, in rehab wasn't the best for 14 year old Cassie. No matter how much she would rather stay with her father, it just wasn't going to happen.

Sonya had full custody, leaving Johnny with weekends. Breathing room to get away from her strict mother. Sonya was incredibly strict, she couldn't help it. It was her job and she was damn good at it too. Sonya was on the verge of becoming a Lieutenant General. Constantly wanting to improve, not just for herself but for her family as well. To show Cassie what the result of hard work will get you. But sometimes it seemed like she could get lost in that hard work. Leaving Cassie to defend for herself at times. But no matter what Cassie got herself into, Sonya was always there to keep her from doing something too stupid.

"You're just like your father." Cassie was almost tired of hearing that. This was the second time this year Sonya had to pick her up from school for mouthing off at a teacher. "You say it like it's a bad thing." Cassie smirked back at her. Then she saw the look in Sonyas' eyes. The kind of look that says 'one more word and you're going to hate what's next' kind of look. Just as quickly as that smirked appeared, it disappeared. Cassie knew when she could push her luck and when she should not test it. This was definitely one of those don't test it moments. "And you're mouthy like him too." This was the typical conversation these days between them. Like a bad record on repeat.

School was no fun either. Typecast as the military Hollywood brat. Cassie had a rep for being the hot headed smart mouth. Even to the point teachers would prejudge her, never giving her a chance to let Cassie be honest with them. So keeping to herself is mainly what she would do for most of the day. Except for when her best friend was around.

Jacqui Briggs, daughter of Jax and Vera Briggs. Jax was Sonyas' former commanding officer and good friend of the family. Cassie and Jacqui grew up together. Best friends forever is an understatement. Where there was trouble to get into, you can bet Cassie was close by and Jacqui was right there with her. It would be mostly Cassies' ideas that would get them into trouble but Jacqui would never say no. They always had each others back. Everything would end up working out in the end, literally. Their usual punishment would be PT. Running, pushups, sit ups, running some more.

Sonya kept Cassie very busy when she could. If it wasn't homework, it was housework. If it wasn't either of those it was more PT. It wouldn't be until the weekend with Johnny when Cassie got to just be a teenager. Sleeping in, videos games, going to the mall with Jacqui however her favorite was. She never felt like she had to hide from her father nor her best friend. Cassie would talk to them about anything. Everything from boys to getting older. Finding strange hairs in new places, growth spurts and plenty of 'what the hell is that' questions.

Life stayed that way for a while. Every now and then Sonya, Johnny and Jax would disappear for a while. They never would tell Cassie nor Jacqui anything of what they were doing. The only answers they would get no matter how many questions they asked was not to worry about it. Cassie was hoping her parents were trying to work things out. She missed having her father at home. Maybe things would get back to the way they were before. Not likely but there was always hope.

Its been two years since the divorce and things don't seem to want to change for Sonya and Cassie. Now that Sonya finally gotten her promotion to Lt. General, she's busier than ever and stress is at an all-time high. However proud she was of achieving her latest goal, fining time to be with her daughter was getting more and more difficult. Putting even more of a strain between them.
