We both looked at each other as clouds loomed overhead. Their colour shifted from dark grey to black, but Blaze knew that these clouds weren't normal. These clouds looked down upon us, like a king looks down at the people who wronged him. The whole in the ground swallowed the dying grass that we stood on top of, and as we both glanced at each other, droplets started falling from the sky that covered our heads.
"What do we do?"
"I-i don't know."
My breathing started to go raspy, my vision was violently spinning and I couldn't think straight. I wanted to jump across the gap, but knowing that i would fall into instant death, I resisted the urge to do it.
"F*ck."
"What's wrong with you?"
"For starters, we can't go anywhere, It starting to rain acid, i feel nauseous and to top it off, I'm having a panic attack the size of the king's ego!"
"Oh, well I'm slowly panicking too, but my mind is telling me not to scream."
It felt like the universe was taunting us at this point, we had tried almost everything but nothing worked. However, something appeared in front of us that seemed to be familiar. Black smoke. We knew it all to well. He was here.
His menacing laugh filled the air that loomed over our bodies, and as the smoke disappeared shortly after his arrival, his crimson blood red eyes pierced our souls. However, before he could say anything, i butted in.
"I thought i told you to not bother us.."
He glanced at me with....desperation?
"I know you told me to back off, but if i actually wanted to leave you alone, I wouldn't sleep."
"But the dead don't need sleep."
"That's what we want you to think."
"That's not the only reason you're here, is it?"
"Observant. But you're correct. That's not the only reason I'm here."
"So what did you actually want?"
"I'm going to tell you truth about this area. That hole is just an illusion."
"So it's not there?"
"Nope. But I wouldn't jump into it though."
"What else?"
"The whole entire acid rain, is a load of bullsh*t. It's not a thing."
"So we're freaking out over nothing?!"
"Yup."
"Let me guess, even the cabin we can see is fake?"
"No. The cabin is real."
"Oh."
"So you're not going to hurt us or do anything?"
"No. Why would i, you're f*cking terrifying."
"Thanks."
"But that wasn't a compliment."
"I don't think Hunter cares."
"I know he doesn't. See, the thing is with young Ortiz, he's actually pretty much a fighter."
"Have you been stalking me?!"
"No. I was simply watching you."
"From where?"
"My throne room."
"Yeah, cause that ain't creepy at all."
"Yes. My methods of watching somebody is... different."
" if by different you mean stalking then yes, that's definitely true."
"I don't need to know that Ortiz."
"What?"
"I'm aware."
"Of what?"
"My methods...and that need to change them."
For a while no one said a single thing, but the clouds above us started to dissipate, and I happened to notice the hole in the ground was slowly starting to close up. The grass below our feet was a decaying grey colour, and out of the corner of my eye, the trees looked incredibly distorted and warbled.
"You...uh, realise that you can literally just kill us where we stand right?"
"...."
"Blaze..."
"I'm not stupid. I do know i can just kill you right here, but Ortiz made it very clear to me back at the alter, 'touch me and you'll see what will happen to you.' So I don't think i want to lay a finger on you two."
"That's oddly considerate"
"But know this, if you two step out of line, I won't hesitate to ask my servants to kill you."
"Understood."
"Can we leave?"
"...."
"Hunter..be careful with what you say."
"Dismissed."
"Eh?"
"You can go."
"Oh. Thank you your majesty."
As soon as Blaze finished his sentence, the king gave us a subtle nod and disappeared into a cloud of black smoke. After the air calmed, we both looked at each other in disbelief.
"What the f*ck just happened?!"
"He let us go. Jesus Christ B, you need glasses."
"B*tch."
As i gave a little smile, Blaze grabbed me by the wrist and started walking towards the cabin. It was made of wood and the windows looked like they were stained with blood. They had a mesmerising pattern and the panel was in different shades of red, some lighter than others. Black smoke bellowed out from the chimney and the door that lay in front of us had been scratched with what looked like a knife or a key. It was loosing its colour, and there was no doorbell. The curtains were drawn, and small pots of flowers lay in front of the chiselled ground, wilting. Something different feel right.
"Something's...off."
"What do you mean?"
"It's oddly...quiet."
"So..?"
"Is this house even accommodated by anyone?"
"I have no idea."
"Do we knock or...?"
"Uh..i guess we could try."
We started walking up towards the door, and at that point i started getting shivers down my spine.
Gosh, this is so unsettling...
Blaze looked at me before clenching his first and tapping the door a few times. Nothing.
"Try it again."
"Ok.."
He tried knocking the door again but nobody answered.
"That's odd, why would they leave the house with the fire pit still burning?"
"Idk."
During that moment, we decided that this was just a random house so we backed off from the door, but something happened. The door slowly started to open.
"Uhh...was it meat to do that?"
"No. I thought the door was locked."
"Me too."
We approached with caution. As i pushed the door open even further, it creaked very loudly. I tried to look inside the cabin, but it was too dark to see anything at all.
"It's so dark I can't see a single thing."
"This is breaking and entering. We should go."
"I want to see what this is first."
Blaze tried grabbing my hand but i brushed it away. As i moved my hand into the doorway, It started to turn black. The light inside the cabin wasn't even on, and as i took a step into the doorway, Blaze managed to grab a hold of my hand and pull me back out.
"Blaze, what the hell!?"
"I don't think this is a good idea!"
"Explain why."
"For starters, we don't know who's house this is, they could come back at any second, it's completely pitched black in there, and I don't feel comfortable being over here."
"Have you...been over here before?"
"...no?"
"You have, haven't you?"
"....yes."
"Are you...from this area?"
"Yeah."
"Why don't you like coming here?"
"Unlike you, where you woke up in the king's meadow, i woke up right here."
"Oh?"
"The king found me here, and took me in as his 'son'."
"You...king...son...what?"
"I was the king's son. After a while though he started to push me away. I tried to convince him to pay more attention to me, which he did but the attention he gave me was....morbid. He eventually made me a 'prince' after months of me begging, but then decided to not only dethrone me, but he also banished me from the palace. I was cast out for almost 3 years, before making a run for it. I jumped into the pool of water you jumped into and found the base and stayed ever since."
"That's a lot to take in dude."
"I know, but he told me that he was going to make my second life a better one by taking 'tremendous care' but he never did. I wasn't his son, I was just a toy."
"In what way?"
"...well he used crow blood, as a 'medicine' and told me it had healing properties. Since i was naïve i believed him. I didn't realise that he was testing them on me, until he locked me into the armoury room's vault and started testing them on me."
"He did the similar thing to me before i met you."
"Acid?"
"Yeah, how'd you know?"
"Your wrists."
"...."
"Can we step away from the cabin, i feel nostalgic right now."
"Nostalgic?"
"I've been in this house before."
"YOU HAVE!?"
"Yes..."
"What's in here?"
"Crates, boxes, bottles of wine, books, a bunch of rotten fruit, and some other sh*t."
"Huh."
"I'm sorry."
"What for?"
"Not letting you explore the creepy, abandoned cabin."
"Nah, it's fine. I don't think it's a good idea to go in there anyway."
"You tried to though."
"I know. Rubbing salt in the wound there B."
"Speaking of wound, how're your bullet wounds."
"A lot better than they were before."
"Good. Now, let's go before i start having cliché thoughts twinning around my head."
"Ok. Grumpy."
"Don't test me."
As we started to walk back the way we came i could here rustling coming through the leaves besides us. I stopped and paused for a few moments. Blaze saw what i was doing, and seemed concerned and confused.
"Uh, Hunter the way back is this way."
"I know, but i can here rustling."
"What?"
"Shh!"
As we stood in silence, the noises stopped too, almost as if it knew we could hear it. As Blaze came up the side of me, the crunching intensified drastically. As we both looked at the pile of scattered leaves, i caught a glimpse of two small ears poking out. They didn't look like bunny ears, but wolf ears instead.
Those aren't bunny ears.
Then it clicked.
Sh*t.Editor's note:
Hi! Sorry it took me so long to finish this part of the story, but i started college so i was extremely busy, but this is my way of making up for that. Also I can't believe that it's almost been over a year since i first starting using watt pad, and I've enjoyed making this story so much. Once the last part of this story is out, I'm gonna make another one based on Blaze's p.o.v., so I'm looking forward to starting that too.
Thanks for being here,
H.
