My eyes started to open slowly as I calmly woke up. Something that hadn't happened in a while, and knowing this, I immediately became tense when I realized I was waking up into another day. But I relaxed as quickly as I tensed when I noticed where I was. I hadn't woken up in my bed, in sweat and in screams from an awful nightmare based on reality. I hadn't woken up in my dull room, and I hadn't woken up alone, as next to me was (Y/n).

Having relaxed now, I stared at her sleeping form next to me. Her lips were slightly opened, looking slightly wet, and her lids were completely closed, letting me see her long lashes. Seeing her sleeping so calmly... it made me feel calm myself. And her face, so close to mine laying on the same pillow, allowed me the best view of them all.

I moved my hand slightly, realizing we were still holding hands from last night, and slowly I brought hers with both of mine so that I could hold her small hand better in between the soft and delicate caresses that she deserved. My thumb ran across hers, stopping on her smooth nail as I traced it with the point of my fingers thinking about how adorable their fingers were, how holdable they felt. And then I put her hand in between mine again to turn my attention back to her resting face.

Today had been the second day I woke up well, not only because I hadn't woken up in yells, breathless gasps, and awful nightmares, but because it was also the second day I woke up with her by my side. Which wasn't just great because of that but also because I was able to immediately see her. To feel she was perfectly fine. And thanks to that, those horrible memories of what I saw and went through seemed to look distant even, disappearing in the back of my mind and being replaced by the warmth and comfort of her. After all, this had been the second day I went through without dying or seeing (Y/n) die. So maybe, and luckily, I wouldn't need to go through that again.

The day before yesterday, when I suffered that shock, (Y/n) stayed in my apartment all day and night, falling asleep next to me similarly to how we were right now. The difference was that instead, I was now in (Y/n)'s room that definitely looked more warm and lively than mine. Even her bed was more comfortable, although maybe I found it that way because it was impregnated with her sweet scent.

In any case, the day after (yesterday) I had that day off I had to go to the hospital to get another check-up and see whether I was really better or not. So of course, (Y/n) accompanied me as well. She stuck with me through it all, and I don't only mean to yesterday and the day before. Thinking about it, she had never left my side, not even when I asked her to in the past... She also didn't leave my side when we were called upon the Hokage's office later after the check-up.

I couldn't help but feel some anxiety creep up on me again when we were called to the Third's office. But knowing that (Y/n) was by my side helped my nerves, and so we both reported there. Bowing our heads and waiting for him to tell us what he needed to.

"I just received your medic analysis, Kakashi" he spoke "I'm glad the day off has helped you" I didn't say anything and kept my head low "However, I'm afraid to tell you that the team I sent in your place to deliver the artifact to the Land of Bamboo hasn't returned yet, nor we've had any type of news from them. We are thus assuming they must have encountered some trouble" he spoke, and my head immediately rose up, my heartbeat racing faster and louder knowing that it originally was (Y/n) and I the ones to die, and that indeed there wouldn't be any news of this team because they were most certainly dead as we once were as well "Given that you have recovered already I'm sending you two to see what happened to them"

At his words, my skin turned cold in a sweat, and my hands started to tremble without me realizing it. However, (Y/n) did.

"Lord Third," she said "it's true that the doctors said there didn't seem to be anything wrong with him. But having only had a day off I'm afraid he could have another attack," she said, keeping her head low and gaining all of my attention. The Hokage blew from his pipe and looked at us while I had my eyes on her. She looked at me from the corner of her eyes as well and smiled at me imperceptibly only for me to see and rest assure "I think that giving him another day to see how he develops would be better, that way neither us nor the missing team would be in danger if anything happened again" she argued.
