Chapter 2

Max's POV

"WHAT THE HELL IS THAT?" Neil exclaimed.

"Awww, I think it's kinda cute," Nikki added.

The page I had flipped to is a picture of David in front of the Camp Campbell flag, surrounded by small hearts with arrows that point to "D + G" inside of a big red heart.

"Gwen likes... David?", Neil asked, shocked.

"Awww, they're meant to be!" Nikki squealed in my ear. "What else is in there?" She grabbed the page in order to turn it, but I stopped her.

"You know what, Nikki? I'd rather not have my view of David shattered by whatever Gwen is writing about him."

"Oh, you're probably right", Nikki said, removing her hand from the page.

"Well, do you know what this means!?" I asked.

"We should set them up?" Nikki suggested.

"No! We gotta blackmail them!" I exclaimed.

"But, what if we... help them?" Nikki continued. "Think about it! If you help get Gwen and David together, you'll finally be a good person!"

"Me? Being a good person? Pff, no way, I'll always be a mischief maker at heart. I am MAX! Remember? The cynical rebel! The one-man hell raiser! I hate everyone and everyone hates me!"

Neil and Nikki both stared at me in silence, arms crossed against their chests. Nikki snickered a little bit, and they both looked at each other.

"Okay, okay, fine! I'll help, but if this backfires I'm going to blackmail them and you guys can't stop me."

"Deal" they said in unison.

The next morning

Max's POV

The next morning, it was time to break the news to everyone. After Gwen and David left the Mess Hall to set up today's camp-tivity, I cleared my throat to get everyone's attention.

"Alright, everyone! Listen up here!" Everyone turned their heads to face the table that I was now standing on with Nikki and Neil.

"Gwen likes David!", Nikki shouted from beside me. Everyone gasped.

"What?!", Ered exclaimed.

"NIKKI! I WAS SUPPOSED TO SAY THAT!", I yelled, angry.

"How do you know?", Nurf asked. "Are you lying? Huh?"

"Nurf, why would we lie about stupid sappy shit like that?"

"Yeah, we found Gwen's diary and everything", Neil added. He pulled David's phone out of his pocket to show everyone the picture of the diary.

"Oh! The romance!" Preston exclaimed, putting his hand to his heart and feigning a faint. "This gives me inspiration for my next play! Romeo and Juliet! Love Resurrected! Again!"

"Don't make this lame, Preston," I groaned, facepalming.

"Vell, vhat should ve do?", Dolph asked.

"We should help Gwen win over David with charms!", Nerris proclaimed, waving her hands around.

"No, that's dumb, Nerris. We should give David a cute kitten to give to Gwen", Harrison said, pulling a puppy out from his hat. "Or a puppy?"

"No, no, all of you have this wrong," Nurf interrupted. "We just have to get Quartermaster to beat Gwen up again, then when David sees she'll save him and they'll get together!"

Everyone started arguing and shouting over each other. It was pure pandemonium.

"Wait, guys!", Space Kid interrupted. He hadn't said a single word so far this morning. Everyone stopped arguing and turned to look at him. "What if Neil made a drink that made Gwen and David fall in love?"

"That's... not a bad idea," Neil replied.

Neil's POV

It was just before dinnertime, and I had finished making my love potion. I even tested it on the squirrels and everything, and they fell in love with Space Kid all over again.

"Alright!", I said to Max. "Let's go spike their drinks!"

I snuck into the Mess Hall with Max. Quartermaster had already set out everyone's plates full of shitty potatoes and glasses of lake water. We crept over to David and Gwen's table.

"How much do you think I should put in there?", I asked Max.

"Probably the whole thing's good."

I picked up David's glass and dumped out the water in it, then filled it up with half of my bottle of potion. I did the same with Gwen's.

"Alright, we're set!", I told Max. Now we just have to wait! The effects took about 20 minutes to kick in with the squirrels."

"Perfect," Max snickered.
