As soon as we reached the room, I took a nap. It was involuntary and I am not completely sure when it happened. But after what seemed like forever my eyes started to open and I felt a lot better.
"Morning sunshine," I look up and see Brick. "Pagaent starts in a few minutes if you wanna get ready," I yawn as I start to sit up.
"I'll meet you in the lobby in five," I say while stretching a little.
"Come on, I can't watch?" he pouts. I roll my eyes and push him out of the room, both of us laughing the whole time. I quickly change into a nicer top and then brush my hair as well as touch up some makeup.
Once I am ready I started walking down. The elevator was close to our room thankfully, only a couple doors down. As I go to click the button to go downstairs I hear two familiar voices arguing. I press the button before turning around to see who it is.
"Eliza! What a nice surprise! Brick is here too I assume?" Coralee says.
"Hi, yeah he just went downstairs," I reply. I look at Patty and give a weak smile. "Hey Patty," I watch her roll her eyes at me and I do the same. So much for trying to be nice.
"Coralee, since when did they start allowing white-trash at these events?" She says ignoring me. I laugh a little, remembering how her mom was literally raised in a trailer park.
"Patty! This is what I am talking about. You need to drop the attitude or I cannot compete with you!" Coralee yells back at her. The elevator door opens and I walk in awkwardly as they follow me.
I try to shut out the fighting for the short time we are in the elevator and text Brick. As soon as the door opens I rush out and see him waiting for me already. He looks up and laughs a little at his mom and Patty.
"Must have been a fun ride," He smiles at me.
"Oh, I had a blast," I laugh a little and he puts his arm around my shoulder as we follow behind them to the pageant area.
The yelling between the Coralee and Patty just kept getting louder and louder to a point where Brick got in the middle of them. I stayed quiet not really knowing what to do and after a few moments Bob came.
"Ladies! We have to get ready. Less arguing more smiling!" He sings grabbing both of their hands and pulling them into the dressing room.
"We can sit here. I'd say lets go to the audience but it is my mom, and that is ten times more annoying believe it or not," Brick says to me as we approach two chairs right outside the dressing room.
"How come they are doing a mother daughter pageant if they can't go five minutes without fighting?" I ask. He simply shrugs and gets on his phone.
A few more minutes go by and I hear even more yelling. This goes on for awhile until the door opens. Bob walks out and shuts the door behind me.
"Eliza," I look up at him. "Would you be interested in doing his pageant?"
Brick puts his phone down and looks at his dad then at me then back at his dad.
"I- uh, would prefer not to-" Bob cuts me off and grabs my arm. He pulls me into the dressing room and I freeze.
"I have the perfect solution! Patty you're out. Eliza will be doing this pageant with Coralee," Bob states. I feel my life flash before my eyes while remembering how everyone is like ninety nine perfect sure patty is a serial killer.
"What?!" Patty screams.
"I think that is a wonderful idea Bob!" Coralee exclaims.
"Guys no, Patty should do it. I don't know anything about this stuff and-" Bob cuts me off.
"No need to worry. All you need to do is fit into a dress, a bikini, and know how to draw a basic flower," He says. I look at Patty's glare and swallow. "Patty, take the dress off and get out," He says.
I stand there thinking about how I am probably going to get killed while Patty slowly undresses. She stands there in a bra and thong and opens the dressing room door.
"Fine, I'll just hang out with Brick," Brick turns around as the door opens and I see him stare at her. I can feel myself get a little insecure or jealous and I take a deep breath. She sits right on his lap and smiles at me. "Have fun Eliza, because I know I will,"
Brick sits there and does nothing. NOTHING. Everyone watches in shock for a moment and he looks over at me. I roll my eyes and shut the door to the dressing room. I listen to Coralee explain what I need to do as Bob hands me an outfit to put on and then does my hair and makeup.
A million thoughts run through my mind but the worst one is because Brick did nothing. I know he talks about Patty and how crazy she is but what if that is just his way of getting over her. And what if him not moving when she sat on his lap was him giving me the hint.
I sigh as Bob finishes on me and I stand up.
"You are up next," He says. Coralee grabs my arm and we rush towards the backstage area. After a few seconds I hear the announcers.
"Next up we have Coralee Armstrong and Pat- Eliza Sinclair!"
