It's been about a week without ne talking to Brick. Patty was pissed off at me, Dixie always has random guys over, Magnolia was the only person I talk to.
Not that anything bad happened between Brick and I. He has texted me and called me a few times, I just don't want to talk to him.
He seems like the guys that you fall head over heels for, and then it ends in a minute. He is the kind of guy who everyone wants and I don't want to be that girl to be with him.
When I got home after Brick's last week, my mom asked about him. And that was way too awkward for me to handle.
"Eliza, do you want to go shopping with me? I need major shop therapy," Magnolia says over the phone.
"Yeah of course, I'll come by in thirty," I reply.
"Ok!" She says. We hang up and I put my phone down. I change my clothes into a pair of leggings and a cropped baggu T shirt. I put on an oversized hoodie and some white Vans. I do light makeup and walk downstairs.
My car from Cali finally got shipped here, so I don't have to be seen in that awful yellow Hummer anymore.
"Where are you going?" I turn around and see Dixie looking at me.
"The mall," I respond.
"With who? Brick? What is going on with you two?" She starts interogating me and I roll my eyes.
"Magnolia. And nothing is going on between us, I don't like him like that," I reply walking out of the house. I shut the door behind me so Dixie can't keep talking.
I get in my car and start driving towards the Barnard's house.
Magnolia and Christian broke up because Christian had a thing for Patty. So now Patty and Magnolia aren't on good terms and neither are Christian and Brick.
Then again, I don't think they ever liked each other.
I pull into Magnolia's driveway and see her waiting for me in her garage. She smilss and gets in the passenger seat.
"Nice car," She says getting in the car.
"Thanks," I reply. "So, how have you been?" I ask her. She just shrugs.
"I mean my best friend and boyfriend completely left me for each other, but I'm good," She laughs.
"At least you're good," I laugh. I start driving towards the mall. The drive is longer than the drive to her house.
Which sucks because I hate driving, but it is worth it. Shopping is fun and makes you feel really good.
We finally get to the mall and find parking. Magnolia and I agree that the first thing we will do is get coffee.
"I just can't believe Christian. Like yeah Patty got skinny, and now she is hot, but like what the fuck!" Mag whines.
"Who cares, Christian was a dick anyways. Plus he isn't even cute," I tell her. She sighs and we walk into Starbucks.
The coffee here is definitley overrated, but that is all they had. We both ordered our drinks and then started walking around the mall.
"So you and Brick?" Magnolia says raising her eyebrows.
"No way. Ew, no," I laugh.
"Oh come on, you two clearly have a conection. You are teling me you don't have anything for him?" She says loudly.
"No!" I lie. She sighs.
"Well I mean he did bang your mom," She laughs. I roll my eyes.
"Yeah, I think he has had enough Sinclair girls for one lifetime," I laugh. She laughs and we walk into a store.
I look at a few pairs of jeans and a couple sweaters. My phone goes off and I check it. I sigh to myself and debate whether to answer to the call.
Eventually, I decide to answer it.
"Hello?"
"Eliza, Hey! " I hear from the other line.
"What's up?" I ask trying to be friendly.
"Not much, Have you talked to Brick since that day? I've been trying to reach him all week. I feel really bad for what happened," Patty says.
Bullshit.
"I haven't actually. Maybe ask Bob?" I reply.
"He won't talk to his dad and now Bob hates me because I didn't tell him Brick and I were dating! And Nonnie said she saw you two at dinner!"
"Yeah, the night of the party, haven't talked to him since," I say getting bored.
"Text me if he calls please,"
"Bye," I say hanging up. Look I was going to give Patty a chance, but she is just so- weird. Like we all get you were fat, well you aren't now so get over that.
And like she is always in trouble with adults. Rumor has it, she lit a guy on fire once. and fot away with it.
"Who was that?" Magnolia asks walking over to me.
"Patty," I reply. My phone rings again and I check the caller ID. Brick. I was going to ignore it, but Mag grabbed my phone.
"Lover boy!" She sings before answering it. I roll my eyes and laugh a little.
"Yes, hi! This is Eliza Sinclair's phone, how may I help you?" She says into the phone. She takes it away from her ear and puts it on speaker.
"Yeah can I talk to Eliza?" He asks. I take the phone from Magnolia and take it off speaker.
"Hey, what's up?" I say pretending like I didn't gohst him for a week.
"Not much, do you wanna hang out tomorrow? My family is having a dinner party for Christmas and I think your mom is coming," He says.
"I don't know, will a hot blonde wrestler be there?" I ask.
"I think I could invite one of those. As long as a hot lacrosse girl can come," He says.
"I could arrange that," I reply.
"Good, see you tomorrow,"
"See you tomorrow," I say before hanging up. I face palm myself as soon as the call disconnect.
See you tomorrow? A hot blonde wrestler? What am I even saying? And why did he go along with it?
I cringe at my own words and walk over to Magnolia who was checking out. I think she is not the only person who needs shopping therapy anymore.
