Avery couldn't keep her eyes open.

She had been perched on a spinny chair, leaning over the counter in the lab, barely listening as Fitz and Simmons explained to her the adjustments they were trying to make on the Night-Night Guns.

But she was struggling. It had been an hour since she asked that question, and now she deeply regretted it. Thankfully the two scientists were too busy on their rant, that they didn't even notice Avery's head sleepily leaning against the palm of her hand, as her elbow was propped up on the desk.

It was a way to try and keep her awake. She wouldn't deny that the reason she was so tired was because of the intense training May was pushing her through. Avery hadn't been this tired since she was forced to stay awake by Olive and Tony Stark while they worked on a project in the lab.

Obviously Avery had been trained in combat before, but May was strengthening her skills and teaching her how to maintain control in the field. There was a lot of things May had taught her that she didn't know before. But despite the benefits of the training, Avery was extremely drained.

Ultimately, Avery was saved when May appeared through the doors of the lab, announcing that the team were to gather in the command room for a mission briefing that Coulson was holding.

A few minutes later, the team surrounded the table in the command room, waiting. It didn't take long for Coulson to join them, and he strode into the room with purpose, alerting the team that the mission was quite important.

"Chan Ho Yin." Coulson gestured to the screen, where a picture of a middle-aged Chinese man, with dark hair and dark eyes, appeared. "Just a struggling street performer until a few years ago when Mr. Chan began to exhibit moderate pyrokinetic abilities," he introduced.

Avery noticed the large tattoo printed on his arm and it intrigued her. Unfortunately she couldn't figure out what the tattoo was, but she was hoping she would get a clear look later on. She only had one tattoo; a vine wrapped around her right wrist. But she was planning to get more done, which was quite difficult, considering she didn't have much free time.

"So what gave him powers?" Fitz wondered.

"It's still under investigation, but Chan did live near the decommissioned Wan Tai nuclear plant when it caught fire. To our knowledge, no other nearby residents have exhibited similar traits," Coulson answered.

"So how did we find out about him?" Simmons voiced.

Knowing everything about it, May chimed in with an explanation, "Informant saw him lighting torches in a street show. With his pinky."

Nodding, Coulson added, "Brought it to S.H.I.E.L.D.'s attention. We told him to keep his abilities under wraps. He's been on the index ever since," he told.

Skye's brows furrowed in confusion. "The index?" Her eyes passed by everyone, trying to figure out what she missed out on, as everyone else seemed to have an understanding of this strange term Coulson had uttered.
